I've had this on my mind for the past few days so I'm just going to spit it out.
In Origins, mage player characters were responsible for terrible power and it showed. My highest recorded single-hit damage was 3015 with Mana Clash (check my DA:O character profile if you don't believe me). Once a mage obtained Blood Wound and Mana Clash, the game was essentially over as far as combat was concerned, even on Nightmare difficulty.
On the other hand, rogue player characters were a hard carry and took an awfully long time to fully develop. For me, the reason for this experience may be because, as the rogue in the party, I refused to bring another rogue along, so I was responsible for all de-trapping and lock-picking. My focus on the rogue's device mastery left his combat skills lacking until very very late in the game. And even then, the character was only average in performance compared to the other dps classes.
Now, in DA2, it seems the tables have been turned completely upside-down. My mage character on Nightmare difficulty avoided friendly-fire AoE and focused on control and denial using the Spirit and Entropy schools, while dabbling a bit in Arcane and Force. I had tried an earlier build with Blood and Elemental but found them to be underwhelming, even after using a build with upgraded Horror and Crushing Prison.
Conversely, the rogue in DA2 is an unstoppable murder machine. Desire Demon? Assassinate. Elite gang lord? Twin Fangs. And everything else simply explodes into a shower of blood and gore if I hit it with anything other than an auto-attack.
Although I only briefly played a 2h warrior in Origins and have not yet even started one in DA2, I'm going to assume here that the experience is going to be similar -- that warriors have been completely revamped. I make this educated guess based on the fact that Taunt (the most essential tank ability) has an OUTRAGEOUS stamina cost compared to other tank abilities like Shield Bash or Assault.
Although I'm severely disappointed with the way in which BioWare addressed the accusation that mages were completely OP in Origins by nerfing them into oblivion in DA2, I still had fun with the class and I'm very likely to do another mage playthrough after I finish the game with my rogue.
That's that. My opinion and feedback on classes in DA2. Take it for what it is.
Thanks for reading.
