I am currently playing the exiled prince DLC's "repentance" and the party I am traveling with is incredibly underpowered. I seemed to be locked into the quest area unable to exit and change out my party for more appropriate members. Is this a bug or the way that the game works?

i'm not as far off as you are but even outside a quest, i hate that you can only change parties from a 'gather your party' spot.. kinda wished you could do that everytime you enter/leave an area..

i hate travelling to the viscount's, gamlen's, etc just to change or remove/add a party member

While frustrating.....compainons aren't pokemon. You can't carry them around in your pack and decide to use them when you want. I really don't think the devs had the thought of letting you think,"Wait a sec guys, we need a tank. Aveline is right outside, Fenris you get to sit the bench this time." It's called planning ahead, building a balanced team, taking out the fodder and then the main threat helps too.

The exit door does not allow you to activate it. The map says "Hightown" but when you go over to the door it doesn't even show anything. You are pretty much trapped inside.
