Just finished the game, and while I agree that the game is not bad by any means, it's most definitely mediocre. It seems like, in a lot of ways, Bioware took some steps forward with aspects of this game (like the new combat system and graphics, oh they are so pleasant to look at), and in other ways, they took a step backward, most notably companion interactions.

Oh, and the reused areas, good lord, as much as I wanted to do a second full playthrough, I couldn't stomach the thought of going back to the same 4 areas of the game over and over again (Wounded Coast, Sundermount, Kirkwall, Bone Pits). I felt like I had already seen enough my first time through. More than enough.

Oh and the companion interactions! I liked what they did with the companions since they felt more like real people this time around, but there was still something lacking, and I still did not feel close to them, even when I've had them in my party the entire game and did all their quests. Even when my LI moved in with me, I still felt like I knew nothing about him, even though I'm supposed to be in love with him, by the end of Act 2, and even up until the ending of the game. And here I was, living with my lover, and I couldn't even go up to get a kiss or ask him to bed...another nice touch in Origins. Instead, all I get is the generic banter line when I try to talk to them. I also hated how you could only talk to your companions when the game told you to.

OP, I agree with your points. Again, this was not a bad game by any means, I thoroughly enjoyed it throughout my 1.5 playthroughs :) Although, I have no desire to do another. I truly felt like this game had so much potential, and it had the potential to be something really great (the story was interesting, well, getting past the disjointedness of Acts 1 and 2, Act 3 was really compelling), but it fell short. I also agree with Vicious, DA2 definitely reeks of being rushed and incomplete. I would have happily waited another few months, or even another few years, for this game, and I know I'm not the only one.

A mediocre game would be Oblivion, you felt like the sidekick to a grand adventure.

The funny thing about Oblivion is that they could easily make a full game just off of it's sidequests. for example joining the Assassin's and following the story to fruition in Oblivion is by far the most memorable part of the game.

GTAIV's plot, whoever brought that up, is so grossly overrated its not even funny. It lacks all kinds of focus because you do stupid tasks for stupid people over and over. Its even far less believable than DAII. I'm Niko, I want to change my life, but I can't stop killing people....and the cops don't even go on a manhunt for him.

Niko doesn't know what else to do. He even goes over that a few times throughout the game, the most explicit being when he asks Roman "What's my trade, cousin?" He laments that he cannot do anything but muscle work, he's a killer either for governments, mob bosses, or punks. He simply doesn't know what else to do with his life. He tried to do that cab business thing with his cousin, and look what he did, he ended up killing the Albanian thugs and eventually the mobster that was squeezing Roman.

And the cops don't go after him because he's working for the CIA, maybe you didn't get that far, but the CIA get him pretty early in the game. Near the end of the game he gets out and his handler says that his protection's at an end. We don't see if the cops ever get Niko but after that finale....if he's still in Liberty City then he's likely going to be thrown in jail. There's no happy ending for Niko.

Also, Meriill is under Hawke's protection due to the request of the Keeper. Fenris and Isabella join you because they have nothing to do, and you helped them. Isabela joins just for excitement.

And Hawke has to honor that request? Who's Merrill to Hawke? Especially a pro-templar Hawke who hates blood mages? We don't even have choice in accepting her. Fenris is on the run from slavers and then decides to wait for his master to show up. I still don't see why running around with Hawke has anything to do with that plan.

And Isabela's the worst! She has a gang leader and the Qunari looking for her. So she stays in the same bar and joins Hawke instead of running for the hills? She wants to return to the sea so badly and there's nothing holding her in Kirkwall except the plot. Who cares if she finds the book or not? It's time to write that off as a loss and leave the gang, Tevinters, and Qunari to the kill each other over the book.

Still, Niko's story just does not work, if he wanted to do something different, he would stop killing people for money. Its ridiculous.

And your "working for the CIA" theory does not work for GTAIV's other protagonists, Johnny and Luis. Hell, Johnny assaults the prison to kill his boss and GETS AWAY WITH IT!!!!! Talk aboiut atrocious storytelling. Oh and Luis blows up a plane and not gets picked up by cops after he drops from a parachute....yeah.

Adfd to the fact that Rockstar has absolutely no concept of pacing a story or having a story that has any kind of focus most of the way through. If DAII lacks focus....than Red Dead Redemption is far far worse.

When is Hawke fully pro-templar? And its not like he has to use Merrill, all he does is take her into the city, on the Keepers request.

The Qunari really don't know who exactly stole the relic. And Varric would warn Isabella if Castillions men come  to the tavern, being a spy master.

You learn everything you know about a companion during quests or giving gifts, instead of just talking to them. Instead of being glorified codex entries, you learn about them through plot and quests. Its better that way. Fenris will open up about his past during Questioning Beliefs, as will many other party members.

All my Leliana does in DAO after I romanced her and exhausted her conversations is say "Are you sweet and attentive?".

Stay the course Bioware I personally thought DA2 was more enjoyable then DAO.

Not to say that DAO wasn't also a great game or claim DA2 was perfect I just found myself having a better time in 2.

Bobo Minkey, i agree!

I am playing Da:O again and i swear the deep roads is twice as big as Kirkwall...hell even one section like Caradins cross is much bigger than Kirkwall's sections added together with no loading.

The Deep Roads is also one of the most tedious and boring sections of DAO as well.
