Now my true question is what is a "fan boy" and if I love DA2, and since I am not a RPG fanatic, and love the new style and all the "hack and slash" action in DA2, does that make me a "Fan Boy"?

Please don't take this as rude or condescending. It is not meant to be. Your preferences for gameplay are just fine and I am not trying to put them down.
But in all honesty, a lot of us who have been BioWare fans for some time don't want you here. We don't want you to play BioWare games. We don't want you to influence how BioWare makes games. BioWare does, because it's a company and if they can make more money then they are dong a good job. And there are more of you than there are of us. But that's not a good thing.
Consider this: what if only one company made games like Madden that you mention you enjoy? And what if that company only put out 1-2 of those games each year. So in a year, you are lucky if you get two of that one kind of game that you really enjoy.
That's BioWare and DA.
If BioWare changes DA to be a hack'n'slash game because they are chasing your dollar, (and I do mean you specifically, because it's people with exactly your preferences that they are chasing) then we lose our one source of our prefered games forever. And we have you to thank for it.

This has to be one of the most all-time douchebag quotes in the history of this forum.
You don't want him playing Bioware games you elite schmuck? Where do you get off?
Bioware isn't dumbing down anything. They aren't changing the fundamentals from DA:O to DA:2. They change things for artistic sakes, they make things more streamlined and intuitive to get more n00bs into it. That's not a
bad thing.
I don't want to coddle my game and prevent other people from enjoying it just because that's the only thing I can cling to in life. I want people to share what I'm enjoying. I want people who CAN get into RPGs, but never did, get into RPGs. I want HAM to play Bioware games.
And you sir.... wow, I can't even.... just wow.

I completely agree with you! That post surprised me, especially with the "this is not meant to insult you" type of crap. That's like, "No offense, but you're a moron." The sad part is that there are way too many on this forum with similar opinions as the one. I like DA2. I've also been a fan of Bioware's since the original Baldur's Gate. I guess I'm not wanted on here anymore either. You must think and act in a specific way to be permitted to purchase a Bioware game.

First off, I didn't say they dumbed it down. Second, no they didn't just change the art. The camera is woeful in this game as compared to DA:O and that is a huge part of playing tactically. Third the streamlining is "dumbing down" or "improving" based on subjective opinion. Some like it, some You start with an ad homenim and that's insulting and baseless. Stop it.
I agree that people who CAN get into RPGs should, more and more. But here's what HAM said: "I liked DA:O" and "I liked that DA][ was more hack'n'slash." Those were two of his big points. I like the first one. I want him to take the second one and throw it far far away and never bring it up in the BioWare forums ever again. That is something I can certainly get behind. :happy:HAM Hawke wrote...
Okay...I am not an idiot, I see the flaws and understand some of the complaints about the game I get that. I may even be a part of the "target audience" that would embrace the game, but my whole issue is that yes it is part 2 in the series, and it does not have a whole lot of the same functions as DOA, but it is part 2! Hopefully the next
one, given they take a little more time and try to make more people content, will tie 1 & 2 together and make the direction of this game more accepted by you Hard core RPGers.

You really need to read what you've been posting. There is nothing more elitist and snobbish than what you posted. Your dollar is no more special than anyone else's. Grow up and realize just because you like something it doesn't give you the right to be condescending and mean.

No, I respect his preferences. I just think he should take them elsewhere. The gaming industry does not need more hack'n'slash. Especially not from one of the only developers that still makes games that don't have it. There's plenty of good hack'n'slash out there already.
It's sad that some people are upset a particular type of game is dissapearing from the market? I like FPS games and action games too. But I play them from other developers. I don't need or want BioWare to make any.
You're allowed to think and act in whatever way you please, and buy BioWare games, and try to influence BioWare in making whatever kind of game you want. Obviously no one can stop you.
But you know, I know several people that have more or less left the forums because all we see around here these days are the people who "absolutely love everything you make bioware, omg, squee!!!!" And it's depressing because BioWare is getting praised for deliberately distancing itself from the kinds of games it used to make.
I'm not putting anyone down for their preferences or belittling them for them. Different strokes for different folks. But it would be an absolute tragedy if BioWare started making those kinds of games when so many other developers already make them. Right now BioWare is exceptional. It seems they may be considering becoming just another face in the crowd. Any suggestion that this would be a good thing is undesirable.
And really, there's a certain degree of irony in calling me an elitest given how much I enjoy shooters and action games. I don't think anyone is stupid or a second rate gamer for likeing these other kinds of games.

the_one_54321, you're just digging yourself a deeper hole. We get that you don't want other kids getting their fingerprints on your ball. But it's not just your ball. Grow up.
No of course it's not my ball. I did say in one of the pervious posts that anyone can buy, play, and try to influence however they please and no one can stop them. The fact remains that I an a number of others are unhappy about all these unwanted fingerprints on "our" ball. And even more dismayed that the people who make the ball could potentially change the ball even more as a result of this. And we are just as much at liberty to say so if we like.
Also ad homenim = fail. I'll "grow up" when you learn to not resort to such petty and demeaning retorts. I haven't told anyone that I think less of them. Consider that.
