The directors cut enhanced edition still crashes on cue every 30 minutes... and their story was slow, drawn-out, and bad.

QFT Bioware's games do not crash ever. DA2 is a technical masterpiece. It also has better story than anything Bioware has made before. The warden has nothing on Hawke. Even the Bhaalspawn has nothing on Hawke. There is a reason it's RPG of the decade according to PC Gamer.

I just love how people complain about not being able to dress up there companions as if they were their nanny or something! Honestly people, it's not realistic. You don't dress up your friends on a journey...you worry about yourself. That is essentially what Bioware has done. It's a roleplaying game for YOU, not anyone else...not your Elf friend, or your Asari lover...but for YOU. And, you should have no effect on what your companions become (class-wise, etc.).

Also QFT. Stupid games such as Fallout:NV that let you dress up your companions are not in the least bit realistic.
You cannot just tell your travelling companion "Hey, were going to this place and it will be full of radiation, can you wear this radiation suit?" Who wants to wear a !@#$ing radiation suit? Have you guys seen those things? They cannot be realistically comfortable FFS! This needless customization is just dragging the game away from the awesome story and tactical combat.

DA3 should not allow attribute/talent/weapon/accessory customization for anyone else except your main character. I would even go so far as remove attribute customization whatsoever like Diablo 3 is doing. This is a critical step in evolution all RPGs must go through if they want to be successful.

Ah, quite a good troll there. The FFS sort of gave it away though. :slowclap:

oblivion/skyrim/whatever have little
story, nothing really resembling characters, and hardly any direction.
If you like wandering around an empty pixel wasteland, go for it

I take it you haven't played Oblivion very much. The story, while... sub-par, was pretty well defined. I think Morrowind was better at making the world feel more alive, though.

The Witcher is much, much better than Dragon Age 2 IMHO. English VO's were bad, but Polish and Czech were excellent. Combat wasn't as fun as it is in DA2, but everything else is a clear win for The Witcher IMHO.

Not to mention The Witcher 2, which is looking really good.

I like how everyone who is complaining about The Witcher is only mainly complaining about the sex in it. Same old argument. "If a game has sex in it is juvenile". SMH! Give me a break! It's not like you had to have sex with every woman you could. If you did it's because you chose to.

Well I would agree with you there if I didn't nearly miss out on the Cat potion recipe because I gently declined the mage's advances.  After that, I sort of felt scared to turn anyone down.  Still, it had a sort of playfulness about it and I was never terribly offended that my Geralt was roguish.  Liked how the developers even commented upon my reputation as I was walking through Lower Vizima.

The main thing I enjoyed about the game was the introduction to Polish monster "dark fantasy" lore.  Wasn't familiar with it, so it was a welcome change from the JRR Tolkein stuff.  I found the dialogues well written and the voice acting polished (had the enhanced version), especially for a boutique European production.  There was obviously a great deal of love that went into it.  Combat did take time getting used to, but the developers had definitely left it open for you to creat a mage like fighter if you wanted (fireball/incineration if you built up your stamina/edurance bar).

All in all it was a good (not great) story, neat protagonist and companions, logical skill progression, and intuitive alchemy buffers that had very obvious/enduring effects.  Also, it was the best treatment of drunkeness I've ever come upon in a game, and I personally enjoyed the dice poker gambling option.

Thought the comparison to DA2 were interesting.  Definitely looks like there is some cross pollination going on.

Yeah, the Enhanced Edition was everything The Witcher should have been originally. But do to our nations(US) close minded ways and prudish beliefs it was dumbed down and censored a lot. That also lead to a lot of the glitches at first. I really like the dark fantasy thing too. It's a different take on something  that has been done to death by everyone else.  They aren't afraid to take the story where it needs to go for fear of people being angry with them. If a point in the story calls for nudity, they do it. If it calls for graphic violence to get the point across, they do it. If it calls for angry vulgar language, they do it. If it calls for sex, they do that as well. And most of the time they give you multiple choices on how you can respond to a situation or what you will say. Unlike the 3 choices from DA2.

I agree with a lot of your statement.

BTW, to everyone saying "timed button mashing".....just stop it! There is no such thing. You are just making up words to help your arguments now. Something being timed defeats the purpose of actually continuously mashing buttons. Hence the term button-mashing.

I hope witcher 2 will be similarly great, it does look rather promising at least. Doesn't it?

Perhaps in the future it will be cd projekt that will hold the torch for rpgs instead of bioware!

The Witcher 2 is just a "dark" Fable and not even party-based. Meh. How a game like that is supposed to save RPGs is beyond me. The combat seems even worse than DA2. Lots of rolling around and clicking the left mouse button. Another overhyped game imo.

Well please don't spoil ending for me since you have apparently played the whole game already.

Thanks.

Covi, no one said the Witcher 2 was supposed to save RPGs. In fact, the Witcher 2 is an action RPG, just as the first. That's one of the main why DA 2 is getting so much hate. CD Projekt said, "Here's the Witcher, action RPG." Bioware said, "Here is Dragon Age. It's a traditional RPG. Oh, wait a minute. With Dragon Age 2, it's no longer a traditional RPG, what was promised in the Dragon Age series, but now it's an action RPG riding on the coattails of Origins in the vein of Mass Effect."

Witcher series are the true "frame story", both I and incoming II. By reading the biograghy quest-hints and glossaries written by Geralt and Dandelion, you can actually learn about the fabled witcher Geralt of Rivia, like who he loves(Triss, Shani or Yennefer), what he likes(Vodka), and how sarcastic when he addresses others.
In the other hand, DA2 is a cutback story rather than a frame story, because the quest-hints and some codex are still "written by the Maker", neither Varric nor Hawke him/herself. Without those details, even though Hawke is voiced, Geralt is still more vivid and appealing to me.

Personally, I like both the witcher series and Dragon Age. There are very few videogames that I will not ever play, such as GTA or Spore.

Witcher? 6/10 from me. Characters aren't even memorable and the only character who had some memorable dialogue was Fisher King who only said "Mhmm" and that's not actually praising Witcher if their only memorable character is a character that took 5 seconds to think up. Combat was poor and contains more action than DA2. No tactics at all, nothing. So if you hate DA2, you'll hate Witcher 2 since it's gone down the route of Fable if you look at the screenies and gameplay videos. And no, why should someone put the voice acting in Polish to hear good voice acting?

I hear J.K Rowling spins a good yarn. Might be right up your alley.
