Will you lose her as a companion if you do not have a romance with her? Dosn't that sort of force you to pick her? I want to romance Merrill but if it will mean that I will lose Isabela then I dob't know what to do!

She will leave for a short time if you tell her to do the right thing... aka... give the damn artifact book back...
But if you got here to friend status right before the big showdown with the Arishok she knifes one of the guards, walks in with the book and tosses it to him, he gladly accepts and gives thanks for handing the tome back, but now Isabella must go with them and face punishment.
