I disagree. With the sole exception of the too-thin bodies, I like the new look. There was no "DA1 elf model" - it was just human with pointy ears.
I like that DA2 elves are more alien, less human. It does take some getting used to, but I really rather like the look. I like that they look, well... ELVEN... not just starved human with prosthetics stuck to their ears.

I don't know much about the language thing, but I actually like how keeper matari talks along with merril.

orsino didn't look nearly as cool as the timeskip cutscenes and non-actual game images (like the orsino meredith screen on the start menu I think it is?). I couldn't stop staring at his forehead and the top and bridge of his nose man

Yeah many fans were asking for this when the art work of the female qunari first showed up. Keep your fingers crossed for DA3.sapientia24 wrote...
hmm why can't we have a qunari as a party member like in origins if you freed a certain someone. Me I wouldn't mind a female qunari and a romancable female qunari at that hehe.

KUDOS to bioware for the elves. classical.
They took a chance and made something different than Orlando Bloom.
classical? You gotta be joking, right?
And what's wrong with Orlando Bloom? I'd rather have elves without H (why the frak did they need to change Origins Lore too? Elvhes? bah!) and looking more like Tolkien described them; proud, tall, beautiful and wise; than this half-breed between Avatar natives and some animal I still can't figure out which is it? Goats and cows have been mentioned...
And the iris,,, holy sh*t... what the frak is that? We know Elves can see farther and have extreme accurate senses but that looks like something out of a Japanese cartoon!
Replace Ilúvatar with the Maker and this are the Elven race we should have in DA2. And come on, there are so much "inspired" by LotR in Origins and DA2 already
"Elves and Men are both the Children of Ilúvatar, and so have much in common, but there are also great differences between the two peoples. Of these, the most significant is that Elves are 'immortal', at least while the World lasts; they do not suffer ageing or disease, and if they are slain or wither with grief, they are reincarnated in the Halls of Mandos in Valinor.
Although, unlike Men, the Elves must remain in the world until its ending, they are not bound to Middle-earth. They may if they wish take the straight road, and sail into the Uttermost West, a road that is barred to mortals.
Elves also have far clearer sight and perception than Men; they are naturally aware of many things that are hidden from the Younger Children, but these gifts are not without limit."
Peope saying they like the new elves are likely to say they like the new BSN avatars with low res compared to Origins too?

I love the new look for all of the races.

Qunari look awesome but don't really look like tropical people, Par Vollen being tropical IIRC. Elves look great they actually look different now and don't just have big ears look kinda like the Navi from Avatar. The dwarves look so much better this time around to, Varric best looking dwarf I ever seen in a game only other game that I can think of that will have great looking dwarves and elves is the Witcher 2.

But I remember seeing these freaky looking ones the other day at the docks. They actually look like aliens to me. They're the shirtless ones if anyone's seen them.

you mean you don't think it's great that they traded their darkspawn no longer looking like LotR orcs just so their elves can look like short pale Na'vi?
I'll never understand that comparison.

Yeah, I don't get it either. The current Hurlocks actually resemble the Uruk Hai more (if only because the old Hurlocks looked like skinless demonic humans or something like that), and neither version resemble Lord of the Rings orcs in the slightest.
But then those are from the movies, apparently. For all I know they look completely different and the movies got it totally wrong or something.

When Maric talks about Katriel's alien-like eyes, this is how it should be! It's perfect. I'm really happy with the change. In Dragon Age Origins I always felt like I was just playing a tiny human when I was playing as an elf.

They were originally all supposed to be more Welsh accented.JONNY_C wrote...
Also, why have they made all the Dalish with bad irish accents, except Merril? Who is Welsh.
The Keeper sounds pretty welsh too.
It's just the nameless npcs that don't pul it off.
