During my first playthrough, I never received the Finding Nathaniel quest, but did get Fool's Gold. According to the guide, you only ever get one of the two quests, and which one you get depends on whether or not Nathaniel died during Awakening.

I imported a game that included Origins, Awakening, and Witch Hunt... but it had been some time since I played that character, so I just assumed that Nate died at the Keep. Since I wanted to try something different for my second run, I decided to check my final saves in Awakening... I was surprised to discover that Nate did, in fact, survive.

I've read a lot of posts about messed up imports... Is this just a symptom of that? Or are there additional requirements for Finding Nataniel?

I think it's a bug. I had the same problem.

Yeah, Nathaniel never showed up in my game either, even though he survived Vigil's Keep.
