They (Bioware) are basically doing the same thing as the devellopers of Total War: Empire. Game gets bad or less favourable reception and then the company gets involved faking reviews and being active on forums to promote their game and telling other how wonderfull it is. What 4chan did is also not good, but still they are angry about the actual game, not promoting their own bad work.

Their is only one truth in this, the game is average. It's not bad, it's not great or epic, but it is fun enough to pass the time with untill something beter comes out (witcher 2, skyrm).

I posted this on my tumblr and twitter, and I don't even use the BSN, but on a recommendation of a friend I thought I'd post this here.

"After ME3 I’m done with you, Bioware. I can’t vouch for you guys when you do this ****. I’m genuinely embarrassed that the same studio that took games from a hobby to a passion for me would stoop to this. This kind of behavior is not only dishonest and unprofessional, but a total embarrassment for you, your staff and your fans.
I stood up for Bioware through thick and thin. I was still there when they chose to deny gays and lesbians existed, even if I was grossly offended, I was there for them when they charged me $110 for ME2, I was there when they started advertising DA2 like it was the ****ing Super Bowl or something, I was there when they gave everyone universal breast-jobs.
But this is too much. This isn’t simple douchbaggery any more. This is flat out dishonesty. This is what I’d expect from EA. Not from Bioware itself, not from a developer that actually had passion for the games they were making that showed in the game itself.
I had a dream that I still kind of cling to of writing for Bioware, of making games come to life and making them as enjoyable as Bioware’s stuff so far has been. But I don’t want to work for that kind of company now."

I'd also like to add that I'll still be buying ME3 because I'm admittedly emotionally invested in that game and it would take more than dishonesty to come between that game and I. I'd also like to add that all it will take is something from Bioware or EA saying 'not our intention, just an employee screwing up, sorry guys' and I'll take everything back and make my apology.

Truth is, Bioware, I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed.

lol, bioware stopped caring as soon as you wrote '' but I'll buy ME3 cause I've invested emotionally in it'. BW wins! And tbh, you'll buy DA3 if you think it's good or any other game they through out their. Cause although DA2 isnt a great game it's still a kind of game that is rarely made by others (Skyrm doesnt have party members for instance).

I dare say it is most probably BioWare policy for staff to not fake 'independent' reviews.

Probably this guy broke the rules, and I doubt there was any sanctioned or orchestrated move by BW to meddle with the metacritic score. The PR damage risk is not worth the one voice benefit. I suspect he'll just get a slap on the wrist, and a tougher memo will be out today.

End of line

Game reviewers are worthless creatures for the most part, sock puppets and astroturfers are only slightly more offensive, in my opinion.

I won't be buying DA3 as to make a point. I couldn't give a toss, really. I DA2 kind of mediocre and I could probably get by watching playthroughs on youtube.

There was no 4chan Raid. If there were one the metascore would be at 1,5-2,0 because of the mass of people there.

There was only one thread that said in a indirect way to lower the meta score but the majority of the /v/ people responded that the guy should just shut up and discussed the pile of crap Dragon Age 2 was instead of doing something childish like raiding.

I mean hey /v/ doesnt play video games and complains about them the whole day .. do you really think they would do then something like a raid ?

Agreed (except what you quote is obviously a prankster and not the real 'end of line' Woo).

So why would he remove it?, there's obviously no way to trace it back to him just as there is no way to trace it to a Bioware employee, the difference being a Bioware employee has good reason to remove it if he feels the risk that he has been discovered, the poster on reddit has nothing to lose as far as I can tell.

I’d just like to call to attention that the overall user score for DA2 is lower on the PS3 than it is on the PC, so there’s no reason to go around blaming us ‘elitist’ PC users anymore

If this doesn't bother you then I honestly don't know how to persuade you.

I mean how do you convince somebody that deceit is just fundamentally wrong when they already think otherwise?

What I will say is that when you make statements like this you essentially voluntarily exempt yourself from all further discussion about this topic.

Its like the case of a man standing on a street corner and ranting that the world is flat. He can think that and its unlikely that anybody will try to change his mind, but nobody else is going to take him seriously either.

Since most of that stuff is bullsh!t and doesn´t need to be told to me, being a harsh critic of DA2, I won´t comment. only thing I pick out:

Bull, you say? If you didn't need to be told about it, then why the dicks did you use the flawed argument in the first place? And if that somehow wasn't your argument, then maybe you should have made whatever you wanted to say clear. Now you're just going "lol that was nerdrage ur point r invalud" because you wrote "I like red" when you meant that you like blue. If you can't convey your point, then you can't blame me for not getting it.

And you do realize that the second part of the post wasn't even directed at you, right? That's why is was separated from the first part with an extra line and why it began with me adressing people in general, not you.

To be honest, why not.

Because it's lying? Can you even read? If you're praising something to bolster its sales and ratings, then you're not being honest. If you were honest, you'd say what you actually thought. Especially if your job happens to be related to the product's sales.

In fact, it rather annoys me if you trashtalk your own work. If you´re like "Hey that thing I made is total bullcrap, don´t get it!" the only appropriate response would be: "Why did you make it then, idiot?"

In a way I can understand BioWare defending their work, even though I disagree with what they say.
But admitting to have failed would be retarded since noone would respect (and rightfully so) a company that releases games even itself thinks to be sh!t.

Alright. I get it. There is actually something wrong with your reasoning. As in, your reasoning is literally broken. First off, I was talking about being dishonest and praising a game as opposed to being honest about it. If you're lying, then you aren't proud of your achievements. How hard is that to understand? Second, your entire point is extremely stupid. You're saying that people respect a company that releases bad games and refuses to admit that they were bad. No. That's not how it works. People respect someone that can admit their own mistakes. It means there will, hopefully, be improvements in the future. In fact, what all the critics with brains want is for Bioware to admit their mistakes so they won't be repeated. Instead Bioware refuses to back down in any way and keeps claiming that the game is perfect, despite all the criticism. So now people are worried that ME3, as well as any future Bioware games, will be dumbed-down crap. ME2 wasn't exactly a step in the right direction, seeing as for every step forward they took, they took at the very least one backward as well. Hell, people were asking for more role playing even in ME1, what with being unable to see what Shepard is going to say and all, and ME2 went even further from role playing and closer to "press button for awesome". People are pissed because Bioware are screwing up their games, and because they refuse to listen to it. Instead, all Bioware cares about is how the gaming press buys into the hype and that the religiously (literally) devoted fanboys buy the games. People wouldn't be "raiding" if Bioware would ****ing listen.

It doesn't really surprise me, they were probably told my EA to do that seeing as in an interview one of the Bioware workers said they were all dissapointed with the metacritic reviews and they were aiming for 90+ but didn't get it. They said if they didn't get a 90+ soon with DA 3 they'll read what people are saying and make the game with all of that in mind. But when you have the workers pump up the game so much that it's above 90+ you don't have to do anything.

I'd have much less of a problem with someone from Bioware reviewing his product if he did an HONEST review, but the stuff that was written in that review reads more like propaganda to me.
Especially the part where he claims that all the negative criticism is just biased by disappointed people. If this guy really works for Bioware he needs to work on his attitude towards customers.

Technically if this is a common thing with developers, it is ethical. Because then it would be the standard or accepted professional behavior.

When the hell did "everyone does it" become the definition of ethical?

Ethics are not about the lowest common denominitor, damnit.

My rule for metacritic:
80 and above=good in certain circles (you can't please everyone)
below 80=check reviews from other gaming sites

I imagine people gave it a low score because they were expecting Baldur's Gate II:TOB. After 50 hours of this game style I'm starting to like it. Faster, more enemies, less faff. If I wasn't being insolent and letting my teammates play on 20% health it would probably be a lot easier.

Personally I've found there is a linear relationship between the quality of a game and the hilarity of the zero punctuation review.

Who says he´s lying. Just because you and me, and plenty of other people, don´t like DA2 that doesn´t mean everyone who thinks it´s good is lying. It might simply mean they´ve got different taste.
Also keep in mind that even when I say "DA2 is **** compared to DAO, worst game eva!!1111" that still means it´s better than stuff like WoW or the entire Call of Duty Series...... which might be why both are more successful, lol^^

Instead Bioware refuses to back down in any way and keeps claiming that the game is perfect, despite all the criticism. I totally agree with what you say here, but again, let me play devil´s advocate: Just because you and me think so, doesn´t mean everyone thinks so. After all, ME2 sold better than ME1 and (at least I heard, not sure though) better than DAO, in spite of all the (imo very justified) criticism. So if they like their own game and it sells there is no reason to listen to the criticism.

Sad as that may be for us.:(

The metacritic user score means less than dirt. None of this matters
