(And for those saying it might not be the same guy...yes, I'm sure this is all one big coincidence. He just happens to respond to, and simultaneously dismiss, the most prevalent criticisms of Dragon Age 2 in one fell swoop.)

And we all know what swooping is...

Seriously, though, the practice of posting reviews of your own product without disclosing who you are really is unethical, bordering on immoral.  "Everyone does it" isn't a defense.  So far, no one has posted a legitimate defense.  It's lying for the sake of the almighty $$$$.

Oh and to answer the question I rated DA2 the video game 5/10.Like I said I don't think of it as much of a RPG.If they said it was an adventure game then I would give it a 7.

Then you are rating the game based on your expectation instead of the quality of the actual product...

What a pathetic move on BioWare's part if true.

Its too late though, people have already screenshotted everything.

Just for the record EA dev houses get bonuses based on Metacritic average scores.... That for me is what makes it so shocking.

Quit that crap. You're being immature and you'll accomplish nothing but giving blind supporters more fuel for their fire. "omg those 4chan peoples are so evil, now they're impersonating Bioware employees!!"

Because clearly anyone who dislikes the game is a 4chan "hater".

That rule seems to likely to create some...unscrupulous situations and conflicts of interest.  Just seems like a bad idea, there have already been paid off reviews in the past.  That kind of thing just encourages it since it's not like congress is going to come breathing down your neck if you get caught.

Do people honestly get this upset by it?

I mean, the whole Metacritic (YOUR GAME HAS TO SCORE A PERFECT 100) system is the reason we're getting games that shy away from being innovative, and focus on things that will sell well.

I mean, how many games like... Killer7 have come out recently? Games that have actually tried something new instead of just having the same stuff you see day in and day out in video games these days?

And at the core of this is sites like Metacritic, who are saying basically "Why make an amazing game when just a good game sells better?"

So if Bioware wants to hop in there and maybe up a few User Reviews (Does anyone actually read those things?) I could really care less, the entire system is horribly flawed.

Sometimes these (and really, many others) forums remind me of The Boondocks episode where R. Kelly is on trial.

Whether you wish you play the "it doesn't matter" card, it's still unethical for anyone related to the company to pretend to be a consumer and give their product a perfect 10. I do not recall the name right now, but I do believe another product review website had a serious issue with this not too long ago. I'll try to look that up.

If I bough WRPG game and I got a game that to me doesn't feel like WRPG ...shoud I rate it good? I mean I bough it because I thought I will be playing WRPG.And it turns out that it's just an adventure game or JRPG.

What's the difference between this and say...FF7 that allowed you to change Clouds second name?

Is that really true?

This kind of astroturfing is a blatant conflict of interest. BioWare should be ashamed of themselves for letting this happen. The perpetrator of this nonsense should resign.

Technically if this is a common thing with developers, it is ethical. Because then it would be the standard or accepted professional behavior.

No...it's never ethical.  Murder is common, theft is common, just because they occur a lot doesnt mean they're acceptable or ok.  They just simply happen often.  Bioware is responsible for the actions of every employee just like most companies make you responsible for all your actions even if you're off the clock.  People get fired for posting obscene facebook comments sometimes, it's all fair game.

There actually have been societies where Murder is "ok". Including our own.

Because all this is highly relative, I'm just at a loss for why people even care what devs are doing with an already broken system.

Appeal to the masses. Just because others do it doesn't make it ethical. Do you think its ethical that factories dump sewage into rivers, killing the wildlife and water supply of neighbouring towns just because a lot of companies do it?

Funny, the review's gone now. Subtle, BioWare!

That's messed up if it's true.

To those of you responding, "Who cares?" and "They're allowed to enjoy their own games" -- I take it none of you are artists or creators of any kind. Artists, developers, creators - they have an unspoken code of ethics that they understand. They know that touting your own work from the shadows is dishonourable and declassé.

I don't expect you guys to understand plagiarism either; it's just one of those many things that creative people understand and despise and they all know why they despise it.

What's worse is that the reviewer goes to disparage the sentiments of other people who probably are genuine customers and long-time BioWare fans.

Sad.

Like I said, I don't know if it's true, but if it is (it very well may be), that's sad.
