Blaming the upset user reviews on Metacritic on 4chan is the height of retardation. If he actually tried to cop that attitude I'm acutely embarrassed for him. Jesus.

What the hell happened to BioWare in the past eight months? What is going on?

I dont really know what to say other than that deviancy is extremely subjective and you'd be surprised what some people would call deviant behavior.  I cant really say anything other than that simply saying something is common doesnt mean people like it or are accepting of it.

Oh I know. And thanks for keeping it civil while I indulged my sophist tendencies.

Have yourself a great day!

I can't believe you actually think that's not a fake.

1. Find a random Bioware / EA employee on LinkedIn
2. Now use google to find his/her profiles on social networks
3. Post 10/10 review on metacritics using his/her nick
4. Wait for some ****** internet detective
5. ???
6. Profit

you may suffer from accute paranoia

That or he's cynical enough to see how easy it is for trolls to do this. Let's go with the latter, since what he outlined is pretty easy.

Er..why would a Bioware employee use an alias that is associated with a real life identity? Then why copy and paste the marketing description?

I have my doubts that he actually wrote that. It's too obvious and anyone that cares enough could have easily pull up aliases Bioware employees use and write fake reviews.

Next, who cares if he was a Bioware employee? That doesn't mean that he was directly involved in making the game.

And if there was a big incentive for Bioware employees to write good reviews, why are there so few? Doesn't Bioware have ~1000 employees?

Such a big deal being made over something nobody can prove, and even if proved true means very little

You mean it means very little to you personally.  The point of doing this is getting away with it, if every employee wrote likeminded reviews it would be so obvious the entire company would be implicated.  Having only one or two people being fall guys makes it much easier to call them "isolated incidents."  You should care because you're funding bioware and condoning conflicts of interest and a lack of integrity by giving them your hard earned money.  It makes you less of a discerning buyer and more of a drone if you dont try to question motives and keep people honest.

None of that was meant to be a personal attack, it was more of a comment in general towards consumers.

Well accepted by who? Because if this a common occurance, they're obviously accepted by Developers, right?

And honestly, i'm just playing Devils Advocate cause I'm eating lunch and a little bored. I do think it's a morally grey area, and the entire system is broken, but I have already made my thoughts on this clear.

It would be ethical if companies would do it, be caught, and then just say "so what?" and leave it up for all to see, and no one would care about it.

While this is something many big companies and corporations do (along with many other law-breaking activites), this is still something most companies really want to keep secret when they do it. And if caught, they tend to immediately pull it all back (if possible) or go on full damage control mode.

So they know getting caught has very negative consequences for them (in terms of public image, and so forth), so you can't really label it as ethical yet.

Oh man. Assuming it's true, yes it's wrong. But seriously, doesn't anyone have enough imagination to be able empathise? Sure, call them out on it, but with the intense reaction online to DAII (some of it misinformed, mean or just plain abusive), I just don't understand why people can't show a measure of understanding. And, the person didn't mug an old lady.

You know, I deeply care about the image of gaming. I hate the idea that people perceive gaming as "childish, violent, a waste of time etc etc etc." Incidents like bogus reviews don't help gaming's image. Neither does over the top marketing, "dumbing down" and a whole bunch of other things. But, reading these threads makes me even less proud to be a gamer.

It's been pretty obvious Bioware has gone off the rails with regard to ethical business practices (lying about Securom, lying about auto-attack on consoles), so really no surprise to see the rot sinking even deeper. Not really sure what happened to this company, maybe EA's influence, who knows. I can see their shady business practices driving customers away.

i imagine it has something to do with EA forcing them to shovel out DA2 before it was actually ready
there is no way that they looked at the game as is and said, "yes, we are proud of this and want to release it."
for some reason EA isn't letting them be honest on it if that's the case.

can't wait to see what retarded PR blitz biodrones are going to be up to now.

Wait.....

Why all the negative reviews though?

I've been playing DA:O for the last few days, and then I decided to hop on and try out DA2 for a comparison.

They are not different......at all. The only perceivable difference is that DA2 has flashier animations. Like literally, the gameplay is exactly the same as DA:O. Sure there is a lack of an isometric view, but that never made a huge difference to me as I never used it. Then again, I'm assuming the people that are complaining probably played it on a console as they keep shouting "BUTTON MASHER" yet I have not seen any button mashing...

Then there is the graphics complaint. DA:O looked worse yet was praised by the same people that criticized DA2. If you want a good example of DA:Os graphics, look at the wagon textures or door textures. Really not all that stellar. Yet DA2 improves on the graphics and is now somehow bad looking?

What?

I am very confused here.

I do agree that there are some bad things about DA2 though (like the fact that a lot of the party members are not as interesting as Origins. Although I do love Varric and Isabela.)

What? How could you come to such a conclusion? There is plenty of proof, adding to the fact that he removed his review the second this went public. Continue your blind faith to Bioware I suppose.

If I bough WRPG game and I got a game that to me doesn't feel like WRPG ...shoud I rate it good? I mean I bough it because I thought I will be playing WRPG.And it turns out that it's just an adventure game or JRPG.

What's the difference between this and say...FF7 that allowed you to change Clouds second name?

WRPG is huge genre and DA2 is obiously part of it, just because its not the kind of WRPG you like, does not make it different genre.

How about PS:T? Hell, you cant change your own armour in the game...

Maybe you should have read the reviews.

Actually I just ordered Planescape torment I heard a lot of good things about it like choices that impact the game and fantastic settings and interesting companions. Like I said I believe that many many choices that should matter in DA2 don't matter at all.And that the game has the same end no mater how you play it.I would gladly say why but I might spoil it for many people. If you really want to know why I think so I will send you a PM or something.

Poor guy was proud of his work and wanted to defend the game. Stupid, but nothing sinister and I doubt it was a conspiracy.

Regardless of the proof or lack there of...there's more suspicious happenings with the names of the account and the deletion of the review (most damning imo) that do more to prove it was a bioware employee rather than the opposite.  Unfortunately now it's a race between the accusers and the accusee to make false accounts to implicate each other and make fake reviews to make the other look bad.  It's a mess and hopefully things quiet down if bioware is innocent.

It means very little because there are only 164 good reviews, and there are ~1000 Bioware employees. Meaning there is NO incentive for their employees to write good reviews.

IF he actually wrote that, he did it because he liked the game. NEWSFLASH employees aren't a hivemind that automatically like everything their company sells. And not everyone in a company works on the same project.

I dont understand, why WOULDNT people care if they're buying a product from people manipulating reviews?  Apathy just leads to consumers getting abused by companies.

I hate to hear that, I really do.
On one hand, I kind of feel sorry for the guy. Imagine working hard and taking pride in something you did only to have everyone you worked so hard to please bash it harshly.
Even though it was wrong and shady, I think I can understand why someone would do it.

He's still on their payroll and the review was deleted.  Why delete a completely honest and legit review?  What fear does he have of anything?  He can just stand there and say "I like the game, deal with it.  I have a right to voice my honest opinion."  Even then, you're an emplyoee and it doesnt matter what you think, it's still a huge conflict of interest to review your own games without full disclosure.  It's deceptive at least and completely dishonest at worst.  Bioware employees arent like you or me preciesly BECAUSE they're employees, they're held to a much different standard.
