Is there any way to save Leandra?  I'm wondering if she could have been saved if I hadn't done Fenris' quest and vtalked to Mathariel before I set off on her trail?  Her fate is one of the creepiest things in the DA world - not sure which is worse between that and the Broodmother stuff in Origins.

This scene plus a few others really got a emotional response out of me. I was quite furious and was wondering if I had done something wrong. I raged so hard when I saw the stitches around her neck. This game really took a tole on my mental stability! (exaggerating of course)

You can't save her. I'd go any lengths to change that, but it doesn't look good.

Saddest event in the game, no doubt. Didn't feel like throwing rainbows afterwards so to speak.
Isn't there a way to stop it though? I went to de Puis (the French mage-noble anyhow) and killed him as he did seem responsible. A few quests later I learn that Leandra has got a white lily and hell breaks loose. Is it possible to prevent that from happening by helping de Puis?

yeah i was really mad when i see her death i kill that blood mage without questioning and this is probably the first time i rage too much for video game. i also felt very sorry when Hawke's sister arrived at the end of act 2... it is like "oh no now she is here.. damn i got to explain something for her and hope she will forgive me" ..lol

Loved that scene, they went where I didn't think they would. Glad to see protagonists are powerless in some scenes.

No way gonna help it. I did let him go but Leandra still end up dead.

Well I don't mind that the protagonist is powerless. But what does Bioware have against this nice woman? First she is all broken up about leaving Lothering and her dead husband behind. Then her son/daughter dies. Then the Kirkwall family wealth is gone, then her other son/daughter dies, leaves or is taken away. And then she dies one of the most horrible deaths I can imagine. I mean what did she ever do to Bioware? I was just like 'Oh for f... sake just leave the woman alone now already.' I mean should I be surprised that they don't raise her from dead again and find an even more horrible way for her to die again? Like ... just for the lulz? I mean I am all for drama, but why always this woman? Just because she is Hawke's mom?

Your reasoning for why she shouldn't be killed is probably the writer's reasoning for doing it.

Killing her off would have been acceptable. That scene was just too gruesome. It was done for shock value and nothing more.

Well screw this writer. I don't buy and play games for this kind of thing.

It's definitely the thing that shocked me most in the game. I also didn't expect Bartrand to betray us.

On the plus side Hawke didn't something as tactful as "Atleast father will have company now."

You don't play games for the excellent story telling and plot development that makes you become emotionally invested with the characters that are introduced? Interesting.

The storyline was crap (could have been a different storyline), but it did draw an emotional response out of me at the end, but that was more of the subject matter than the storyline.

I agree. I was just thinking what did this poor woman do to deserve this?! It was horrible and very sad.

It was refreshing to see a vulnerable, emotionally-affected protagonist. I especially liked seeing Hawke's companions reacting to Leandra's death and comforting Hawke afterwards.

i dont think so, even by letting DePuis go & going straight to him when Leandra was taken so he could use the blood magic to track the woman he was trying to protect, it still ends up the same way & you have 2 mages to kill instead of 1
