Isn't there a way to stop it though? I went to de Puis (the French mage-noble anyhow) and killed him as he did seem responsible. A few quests later I learn that Leandra has got a white lily and hell breaks loose. Is it possible to prevent that from happening by helping de Puis?

No way gonna help it. I did let him go but Leandra still end up dead.byzantine horse wrote...
Saddest event in the game, no doubt. Didn't feel like throwing rainbows afterwards so to speak.

Well I don't mind that the protagonist is powerless. But what does Bioware have against this nice woman? First she is all broken up about leaving Lothering and her dead husband behind. Then her son/daughter dies. Then the Kirkwall family wealth is gone, then her other son/daughter dies, leaves or is taken away. And then she dies one of the most horrible deaths I can imagine. I mean what did she ever do to Bioware? I was just like 'Oh for f... sake just leave the woman alone now already.' I mean should I be surprised that they don't raise her from dead again and find an even more horrible way for her to die again? Like ... just for the lulz? I mean I am all for drama, but why always this woman? Just because she is Hawke's mom?Dave of Canada wrote...
Loved that scene, they went where I didn't think they would. Glad to see protagonists are powerless in some scenes.

Your reasoning for why she shouldn't be killed is probably the writer's reasoning for doing it.

You don't play games for the excellent story telling and plot development that makes you become emotionally invested with the characters that are introduced? Interesting.AlexXIV wrote...

I agree. I was just thinking what did this poor woman do to deserve this?! It was horrible and very sad.

It was refreshing to see a vulnerable, emotionally-affected protagonist. I especially liked seeing Hawke's companions reacting to Leandra's death and comforting Hawke afterwards.

i dont think so, even by letting DePuis go & going straight to him when Leandra was taken so he could use the blood magic to track the woman he was trying to protect, it still ends up the same way & you have 2 mages to kill instead of 1
