I find interesting that people care so much about mechanics, etc. when in a RPG what should matter most is the story.

Then the story... You cannot say that a story lacks depth just because in this sequel we are not the "savior of the world" and we have to fght the mighty-archdemon-who-commands-huge-armies. I think this game is more... personal. It doesn't try to make you feel like if you were a superhero banishing all evil from the world, more like a normal guy running from one place and trying to find his place in a new home. Around that you see the story of all your companions, which IMHO are great and improves the story greatly.
So far (I'm almost finishing the game) I think the story is a very good one, which doesn't need to feel "epic" to be enjoyable. 36 hours of gameplay until now and though I think DA2 could be improved, I feel it as good as DA:O, though of course less challenging.
I've been playing RPGs for 20 years, first on pen & paper and then on PC, and though I agree that Baldur's Gate 2 was one of the best games I've ever played, Dragon Age has been so far a good surprise and a proof of how good Bioware moved into new generation games. This is just an opinion, but I really hope we'll get more of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises beyond the planned trilogies.

Only now do they even have stories that rival Lifetime Network grade C garbage, previously RPG stories in games were 'barely better than fan fiction'.

What was the story in ME2 again?  Hey, bro dawg, go get some more bro dawgs while I smoke this cig and get all Xfiles /Half Life 2 tripp on yo azz.  And bro, have you see some of deez hAWTIES!  hit em and quit em brah.

Speaking of time that could be better spent, dont you think yours might be better spent fixing this awful game rather than whining on the forums? Because you're not helping the bad PR, and for being the Senior Gameplay Engineer you're certainly not helping the gameplay.

I don't think they needed to learn a lesson at all. DA2 was about conflict,. not about random X saving the world. A bold move and the conflict, tragedy and drama played out well. (Act III, like Landsmeet DAO) does seem rushed however. DA2 wasn't perfect. But DAO reads like a juvenile fantasy novel now, after I played DA2 twice. (Witch all the clichés, bugs, glitches etc. DAO had....) I do believe that given a patch or two (Not that I encountered anything gamebreaking, just 2 bugged quests) DLCs and an expansion........as well as Mods that will give some people what they want......this will be one of Bioware's crown jewels.

Your comment from the other thread was about issuing orders to squad mates.  ROFL the SOCOM 2 design template.

Well, you said ME2 companions just acted on their own rather than at the player's direction. I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to take your statement seriously. I guess I've spent too much time talking to Sylvius.

Hooray, Bioware turned an epic space RPG Mass Effect nto a prettier version of SOCOM 2/Gears of War.  You win.

RPG fans lose.

 I had some issues about ME2's story at the beginning and I have to admt that I still have some of them, but looking at the story as a whole (that is ME1 then ME2) I think it's a good one. Not a masterpiece, of course, but still good enough to beat most of the stories that are around the market in other RPGs of the past hmm... well, ever. Could you name games with better stories? From what I can remember I could count CRPGs with better stories than ME or DA with the fingers in one hand and I'd have spare fingers.

Oh, and about the "hawties" erm... Miranda and Isabella are not bad at all...

Mass Effect 2 was good because it was a refinement of what Mass Effect was. ME tried to be a fast-paced action rpg, and ME 2 built on and streamlined that, making it a better game. Sure the story wasn't as good, but all around it was better, and had lots of memorable fights and conversations. .

ROFL I love how people think Mass Effect 2 was "all around better" because it has less depth, a worse story, and more talking to Emo Girls.

Mass Effect 2 was very pretty, and had a zoomed in action camera.  Mass Effect 1 was a better game, a better RPG, had more depth, and a better story.

So why was ME2 better again?  Because it was easier, dumbed down, and prettier?

I guess a lot of people like Pokemon in Space. The whole game was so pointless.

I think it means you haven't spent enough time talking to Sylvius, but then I'm told my opinions are idiosyncratic.

No, ME2 is obviously better.

And dude, that's a pretty stupid metaphor. I mean, holocaust denier?

It really wasn't a metaphor. Merely an objection for the truth, no matter how much you deny the plainly "obvious". It doesn't make it true. If you want a watered down, COD-like shooter instead of a great science fiction rpg (WITH MICRO-MANAGMENT mind you) then fine, but leave me out of it. Mass Effect 2 was clearly marketed and designed for individuals just like yourself who find some sort of luxary in mindless button mashing and so called "tactical shooting". Which is a fallacy in it self, there is nothing tactical about it. (Two tours in Afghanistan, one in Iraq Ranger Tab if you want to talk tactics.) Story, flawed. Come on, giant T-1000 as final boss? Mass Effect 2 is nonsense.

So by that logic do you consider SOCOM 2 an RPG? It has squad commands, loadouts, and mission complete screens too, as well as a bad story, just like ME2.

Im a pc player but i have to things to say.

hardcore rpg pc players grow up and open your eyes the games you love cannot continue because their is not enough demand believe me i'd love to see Wizardry 9 or another Baldurs Gate but the fact is it cannot be, Their would be no profit. A lot of you are so caught in traditon to realise that bioware isnt just hear for your enjoyment their a company that has to make a profit. Some of you not all but a minority think that everyone shares your views but your wrong.

Xbox and Ps3 players have to start to realise that the pc is gamings roots and saying that games should be designed around consoles is like punching a pc players mother.

Finally to all of you. Dont you remember what bioware has done for you in the past, They have brought countless great games and i defy anyone to say they havent loved any of the games bioware have produced. I loved Dragon age 2 and actually merril was my favourite charactor but to some of you it seems like your asking for biowares head because 1 game doesnt fit your master plan.

Its time to grow up, im not speaking to every single person but to the minioritys that are corrupting the company. I want to see bioware continue to make great games its seems a lot of you would be happy for them to go out of buissness which disgusts me.

Consoles are the reason for everything wrong in the world. If Nintendo didn't blow things up with the NES, then we'd never have starvation in 3rd world country and every game would be so good players would have continuous orgasms from playing them. Let me guess, you also think the Metal Gear Solid story is "too complex for us dumb dumbs?"

I love it when people try to get all "I'm smarter than you because I memorized videogame story triva" anti-logic as a reason why the story is 'good'.

That's correct, everyone who thinks that ME2's story is sub par is dumb.  Only geniuses can comprehend the EPIC AWESOMENESS of as some other one finely posted "Pokemon in Space"
