 So, i'm at "The last straw" right now i'm facing a pride demon and alot of shades, the problem is i sided with the mages thus both my warriors left (fenris and aveline) So, what the hell.. Can't kill 'em, just can't, playing on hard atm with: Isabelle, Anders, Merill, me - archer.
Isabelle is the only one who isn't screwed in close combat, i don't eaven have time to take a healing pot when they attack anders or merill, low hp, knocked back every time those shades hit them. If i start using AoE they'll just go for everyone, can't keep the healing up when i'm beeing hit like 3 times every sec (and knocked back!)

my plan now is to specc isabelle and varric defensive and let my archer and anders destroy them from range.

so, you've got any tips?

also;
If i manage to kill these, will i have to finish the game without a tank?

You should have been nicer to Aveline. High enough friend rating, she'll stay even if you side with the mages.

You seem to be screwed. I was able to keep aveline because I had very high approval with her.

Yeah but the area's sealed of so i don't have that much room for kiting and if i get hit 1 time i'm screwed aslong as it's not isabelle or "me", tested it at normal, piece of cake. But god that feels wrong.. I think i'll try do it at hard again a couple of times now.

i don't like that girl... she's a stuffy individual, i just use fenris when im not playing nightmare...
but yes, if you want to side with the mages, high approval or be a warrior

I think you can be more douche and she will stay with you. You need to either have a rivalry or friendship for these guys to stay, However, don't quote me on this.

Made it, kiting + aoe was the answer!
And on top of that, i did get both aveline and fenris back right after that fight! even though my relation with aveline was neither friendly or rival, kind of in the middle.

yeah the end game all seems too be based on the relationships with the characters all the side quests and gifts throughout the game fenris tends too be the ass and chaotic and aveline is the honor bound one so you know how too built up their relations through the game.
