oops minor missclick there.

Ok im reading the forums as much as poss but its no mean feat so I apologise now if this is a repeat of someone elses prior post.

I used to live and die by the PC format for all games, but after Halo 3, i decided to bite the bullet, sell my soul to microsoft and buy a 360. This isnt a rant about microsofts money grabbing ways so dont panic.

I bought DA:O pretty much immediately after UK release, and played it on casual, finished it and then moved on to normal, with a rogue (yes i know that was a mistake, rogue AKA most useless class in game)

Reading these forums i see a hell of a lot of patches and mods being coded, modelled and so on. A lot of these are things that i want to see implemented on the 360 version. A few of them are graphical mods, such as improved character models and textures. Particularly the hideous underwear that the female characters use. Now im not saying i want them to be naked and anatomically correct, although it would be refreshing to see a game actually do that. But it looks to me, that the under garment textures were a last minute panic. All the clothing, weapon, and body textures are lovely and well drawn, then there are these disgustingly ugly, low resolution, poorly drawn things.
Also a couple of gameplay mods, that ive seen mentioned are also desirable.

My question is, are we 360 owners going to be able to get our hands on these mods in any way shape or form, or are we boned?

Then why did you buy the 360 version? It hardly possesses user friendly implementation of custom modifications, and I think with DA, at least for now, it's not possible, especially any enhanced graphical features due to the limitations of the Xbox hardware.

Patches for consoles come out far, far more slowly, if at all. Not only that, but of course users' mods are impossible to use with anything but the PC port.

It's not Bioware's fault that this is the reality of consoles.

Well you are boned but Console owners can't really complain. It requires an insane amount of effort and paperwork to get user created mods or even developer created mods over to the consoles. Partly because they'd have to go through an annoying line of communication with Microsoft. Even a PC game using Windows live has to go through a bunch of bullcrap. Dawn of War 2 patches were delayed 2 weeks or so after they were complete because they had to wait until Microsoft let them patch the game.

Could you imagine how much harder it be for Bioware to get optional community mods through microsoft/sony?

You can't run user generated mods xbox 360 games. Even if it were possible to do, Microsoft wouldn't allow it. Microsoft didn't open their platform for Oblivion, Fallout 3, TF2 and not even for UT3. Why would they open it up for user generated content on this one game in particular?

I bought the 360 version because i own a 360, and the game trailer doesnt exactly tell you that the game will require certain mods to make it better. Having played mass effect, i had faith that Bioware would continue pushing the envelope and producing quality product.

Im not saying that DA:O isnt quality product of course, altho the difficulty spikes are a bit annoying.

My point is that i stopped playing games on my pc once i owned a 360 because it makes sense to do so. i didnt expect to find myself playing a game that still has certain bugs in it or poorly drawn textures.

Boned. The chance you'll see player-made mods on a console this generation is as close to zero as possible. On the 360 especially considering how tightly Microsoft controls Xbox Live.

Mods are one of the biggest advantages the PC has as a gaming platform.

I'm sure those already lackluster textures look real nice and crisp when stretched out over 52" like that.

Erm Mass Effect had similiar problems. There was plenty of low-res face textures which can be fixed through mods

That's silly.  My gaming PC is hooked up to my 42" LCD TV via HDMI.  Consoles lost that advantage years ago.

Actually, my PC is simultaneously hooked up to my little 20" widescreen LCD monitor so that I can play Dragon Age when someone else wants to watch TV.  I can switch displays with just a button press!  Graphics cards really are fantastic these days.

Mass effect was also a much bigger game though so minor graphical glitches could be forgiven due to the shear amount of game there was to get through

nah i don't think we are really boned to be honest, sure we may not get mods that PC owners can use, but that's not to say that Bioware wont Release any DLC in the future. I really hope they do to be honest, cause i cant get enough of this game.

Oh if you want to add me to your Xbox there Thundorn let me now and ill add you.

in an effort to avoid this thread turning rapidly into a flame session or something. We all know that Microsoft are con artists, and we all know that the only way most things ever happen on 360 is if we pay through the nose to get it. Especially ince microsoft recently patched to ban all 3rd party memory. Take my word for it i will be replacing the 360 with a PS3 as soon as i can.

I totally understand that i will never see user mods on the 360, unless Bioware deem some mods to be particularly good as some other game dev's have done in the past.

There are however some things that shouldnt even be an issue on 360, let alone have us hoping that possibly maybe if we are lucky enough to get a patch for one day. I will give an example.

in the fade, went through a mouse hole. kill the two baddies in that room. Saved as i hadnt done it for a while. opened a door to face three more baddies, got killed. Reloaded, because there were enemies in combat range in the next room, i was automatically in combat mode when i reloaded, problem is that the door is closed, and you cant interract with the environment in combat mode so im stuck.

i reset the console thinking that might fix the problem, loaded, still in combat mode,

that is the sort of thing that shouldnt be happening in a Game after release date, particularly on a console.

Mass Effect was not a bigger game.  Not even close.
