I know every one hates these threads, but any thoughts. I'm just looking for you impressions/idea of them.
I played a warrior through on DA:O and started a mage and got halfway (did not like the fade sections!)
My thoughts are to play a good noble warrior and a bit of a rouge/does what he wants mage.
Thanks.

Now I'm playing the Mage, and looking forward to seeing this from another perspective.
By the way, I played an honorable, mage-supporting, warrior due to Bethany and the Merrill romance.
This time, I'm going to play a Templar-supporting, **** of a mage. Should be interesting to see what Fenris ends up thinking of me.

My mage has walked the line between valuing personal freedom, but not agreeing that ends justify the means -- IE, blood magic, killing the innocents are nonos for her, but keeping a stranglehold on the mages isn't helping.
It definitely provides an interesting dynamic between Fen/Anders/Apostate!Hawke.

- Cool spell animations
- Being able to rain sweet frosty death upon your enemies. Mages FEEL more powerful. Whether they are is up to your specs.
Cons
- Carver. He's a douche.
Warrior
Pros
- Tasty Visceral Action
- Bethany is so pleasant to have around, usually. Not completely useless as a Healer either.
Cons
- YOU'RE NOT A MAGE!
Rogues
I haven't played this class yet, but you can pick locks, and as an archer you're pretty badass. And you get Bethany. Win-win.

I haven't tried warrior as a comparison yet though. I hear they are pretty fun also.

Dualist Rogues are the best tanks in the game.
This assumes you have a buffbot Warrior and Mage in the party to give it their respective buffs. Their ally taunt can be used on themselves, but unlike the Warrior's weak taunt, it forces the enemies to target the Rogue rather than just increasing its threat.
You can then split a chunk of that damage with the buffbot Warrior if you wish, although Isabella and Dualists only ever get hit by skill attacks, so it's not really necessary.
Wisdom stacking Berserker+Reaver Warrior is the highest sustained dps in the game.

mages are a complete blast and i think the story works super well with you being a mage.
a warrior could be alot of fun too.
the whole listing carver as a "con" against playing a mage is stupid. he's FAR more interesting than cardboard personality bethany. she's easily the most boring character to have around. i actually REALLY enjoyed arguing with him over everything, was far more interesting than bethany who just sorta tagged along and pointed out "hay im a mage" every so often.

If you play as the Rogue, you can put a couple of points into Archery as well as Dual Wield, Assassin, and the other schools in order to benefit most from cross-class combos. You can start out ranged with Assassinate and then close in for high DPS on STAGGERED or BRITTLE opponents. Or set up some DISORIENTED enemies for your mage to cast Stonefist or warriors to hit with Scatter or Assault.
Anders is pretty amazing as a healer because he is the only NPC who can revive party members, plus on the offensive side he has access to the Primal cross-class combos and in Vengeance Mode all his spell cooldowns can get reduced by 80%.
Bethany cannot cast Primal spells which means I don't use her any more.
Merril is very powerful with a really high constitution + Blood of the Fist + Arlathan's Grace and Rock Armor + Galvanism, with access to all the cross class combos from the Primal spells.

But then again, Bethany is a more likable character than Carver (though I adore his storyline).

Mages on the other hand have no issues at any stage except against the occasional big bad named critters like the High Dragon if you aren't careful. Just make sure you take at least a few good AoE spells like Fire Ball and Fire Storm or Chain Lightning and Tempest. Some form of protection or disabling spells are handy too to get you away from nasties.

However playing as a Mage has one major drawback in that you will look like a complete douche' the entire time you are playing as all mage robes look cack, that is until you get the sweet sweet Champions armour which is the best out of the three classes! So the wait is worthwhile!!

There are a few armors for mages that aren't robes even before you get the champion armor, fyi.

no. stop ignoring the battlemaster tree, with that you shouldnt have much stamina problems.Jarys wrote...
Is anyone else finding warriors fairly underpowered? Cleave is awesome and all, but unless you use a stamina potion on every cooldown the overall damage is pretty low (though the initial burst is badass, then you're stuck waiting 10-ish seconds for even one ability to cool down).

From my playthrough...the whole apostate thing plays a very, very big part in the story. I can't imagine it would be quite as compelling if your first or "canon" playthrough was something other than a mage

Underpowered? Are you serious? I play on nightmare and I can just obliterate everything. I literally hit cleave+sac frenzy and charge headlong into 10+ enemies and they literally EXPLODE from my awesomeness.... or from scythe+ww+smite+mighty blow.
Use upgraded second wind... it restores your stamina and apparently makes stuff cooldown faster?(I think that part of it is broke though). The only thing that can really survive that combo is a boss and you need to be juking around the boss unless your own an easier setting.
