Mage pros

- Cool spell animations
- Being able to rain sweet frosty death upon your enemies. Mages FEEL more powerful. Whether they are is up to your specs.

Cons

- Carver. He's a douche.

Warrior

Pros

- Tasty Visceral Action
- Bethany is so pleasant to have around, usually. Not completely useless as a Healer either.

Cons

- YOU'RE NOT A MAGE!

Rogues

I haven't played this class yet, but you can pick locks, and as an archer you're pretty badass. And you get Bethany. Win-win.

This is exactly how I see things... Carver makes playing a mage that less fun because of how much of a douche he is. The job he later finds suits him quite well.

However playing as a Mage has one major drawback in that you will look like a complete douche' the entire time you are playing as all mage robes look cack, that is until you get the sweet sweet Champions armour which is the best out of the three classes! So the wait is worthwhile!!

There are a few armors for mages that aren't robes even before you get the champion armor, fyi.

Ah knowing that would have been good to know but nearly got my champions stuff now so nevermind.

Do you know where you can get such things?

I don't like Mages as a general rule, because you -always- end up wearing robes. I'm not saying give me my Warriors gear and my Mages spells, but why can't my Mage wear armor, with the same stats as a robe? I just never understood how "You can cast fire? What? No, you can't wear that. What do you mean why not? You. Cast. Fire. Mages can't wear armor! Everyone knows that!"

You can definitely wear armor as a mage in DAII. Armor is stat-specific, not class-specific. So, if you invest in STR and CON as a mage, you can wear armor.  Now let's see... who needs CON anyway? Oh that's right, Blood Mages... :D

Im curious to know this as well, the only only mage armor i came across aside from the champion set was the battle mage armor which was okay. Most of the robes however sucked, the chantry robes and orsino robes were pretty bad ass though

i was hoping bioware would adpot a sort of half armor have robe thing like the champion set for most of the mage sets in the game

All the classes are well done. For me, Rogue>Mage>warrior, but that is just preference.

If you know what you are doing, then you can make a monster of any class.

One thing I will say though, is that mage resilience has grown by leaps and bounds since DAO. Once you accumulate a good number of passives, you don't feel glass-cannon-y at all imo.

edit:  For mages, fem-hawke in the pirate armor is pretty sweet.   I named mine Hawte Hawke.
The pirate armor  is basically an indiana jones look and drops off Ginnins the skanky leader of the Winter on quest to rescue viscount's son.

The Mage class has a satisfying storyline, although Carver just brings it down. The other 2 classes is not a big of a difference besides having Bethany with you.

Mages can support while dealing decent damage. The abilities on the Mage is very useful against bosses. The downside is that robes.

My first playthrough was a Mage. The Mage was fantastic in my opinion. The animations were great, spells are pretty powerful. The robes didn't bother me that much, and the staffs can help dealing extra damage on a certain enemy. For example, a shade can be brought down easily with a staff that deals spirit damage. Also the mage can deal both ranged attacks and melee

I am currently on my 2nd playthrough which is a rouge. The Rouge is quite fun in fact. However, it can murder your X button since it attacks fast. The skills on the rouge usually focus on the enemy, or yourself. For example, the shadow specialization focuses on getting less attention while dealing great damage on the enemy. While the duelist specialization focuses on taunting the enemy, but I don't recommend for the rouge has little armor.

I am planning on doing another playthrough with the warrior. I've already started and stopped when I docked in Kirkwall. The warrior seems to be the most boring class I've played. Generally, i love the warrior, but in DAII, it just doesn't get my attention. The warrior is slow with the 2 handed, and when it hits other enemies nearby, it does little damage. You'll be using the skills most of the time, same thing with stamina drought.

I would rather have power than looks. So i prefer Mage if your planning on attacking ranged, while others are taking the damage. Or if you like fast paced action, the rouge deals more damage per minute than the warrior.

Hope this Helps!

No, no, no! You completely misunderstand. It's not that Mages can't wear armor. It just Mages are a lazy lot and only wear their pajamas. In fact, long ago, Mages gathered and all agreed to wear only their pajamas and if any asked them, they just claim, "These are our wizardry robes and we can't do wizardry without them."

The appalling lack of cheezy wizard hats really hurts the class imo.

IMO:
Warrior is easy mode.
Mage is hard mode.
Play mage if you want challenges.

I started on a warrior, rerolled at the beginning of Act II because I wanted to play a fem!mage since DA II is very heavy mage-templar as far as storyline, romanced Anders for that omgtragety feel, so I'd feel more involved. I made her sarcastic, and kept Varric in her party. The lols was win.

Next play through is going to be man-rogue. He's going to be a dick, and I'm going to romance Isabela this time around. Haven't decided what I'm going to do with Bethany (Grey Warden/Circle or dead) yet, and I haven't decided what side I'll pick. I guess I'll let Hawke being a dick play out and pick what feels natural. Probably will stick Anders in the back, but I really can't stand Sebastian. Might let Anders live out of spite.

Third playthrough, I'll go back to the warrior, don't know what gender. Will make them a nice person. Haven't decided romance, sides, or anything past that.

Mage? Hard mode? I'm having an easier time killing things as a mage then i did as a warrior. Now playing as a rogue is hard...well harder than the warrior so far. I can't take the same beating the warrior can.

Mage for the first run, as I feel playing a blood mage fits in best with how I want the storyline to go. I will get on to a warrior later.
