i mean they just threw it out there, with the whole varric telling seeker the story and the unresolved ending and the intrusion of my favorite character...

Stuff it. There's nothing wrong with a cliffhanger. Some of the best games, movies, and books have been the exact opposite of self-contained. You're just projecting your cynicism onto the ending.
Oh, hello, I'm Mass Effect, the Reapers are coming, buy the sequel. I never heard any complaints about that ending.

It may not be abandonment. My Warden left the Wardens (Which isn't political) to pursue his love and child.Red Templar wrote...
It is a bit odd. DA is not a defined trilogy like ME; each game is supposed to be a self-contained game of its own, with the world as its common character. I can buy DA2's ending as a build up to DA3, but it is a bit odd to have no closure on how my Hawke ends up, and to have both him and my Warden randomly abandon their political commitments and disappear, while knowing that I'm unlikely to play either character in DA3.
My Hawke is leaving for something else, but he had no political duty to Kirkwall. He simply defended the mages from the Templars.
I think they will both play a big part in DAIII, although idk how they will do the Warden, voice and imports alike... Hopefully it all goes very well

You decided this after exactly one game, which can very well end with a mysterious loose end depending on whether or not someone bones Morrigan on the eve of battle.
Uh, no. That doesn't exactly hold much water.
That being said, it's not like DA2 leaves any evil force or major antagonistic character to threaten the world. It is, in its way, a self-contained story of an incident that shook the foundations of how the world works. So it's not exactly a second entry in a trilogy of anything like that in the traditional sense, either.

Well they've clearly changed course from Dragon Age: Origins. Perhaps they're looking at just doing a duology with Dragon Age II and III.
Personally I don't mind this, but I'd like to see them bring Hawke back as an NPC and let you make a new char (mainly so I can HOPEFULLY get to make an elf or dwarf again). Maybe we can also cross our fingers that we'll get an Awakenings style expansion pack for the game.

Yeah, that's why I hated Empire Strikes Back so much! C'mon Lucas! Beginning to End!!
Hmm oddly I loved the Empire Strikes Back, I liked seeing Luke getting his ass kicked. Cliff hangers are fun. More so when its the whiny hero doing the hanging mawhahaha.
I say Sandal will be your enemy or on your team for three..

Its just a ploy to make you play and buy longer. An obvious one at that. Could just be me though.
