I want to change the current robes my Hawke is wearing to a warrior armor model, but for it to retain its own stats. Is this possible?

This is possible if you open Dragon Age 2\\packages\\core\\data\\2da.rim using the GFF editor you can select item_variations.gda. Here you can change items and their respective models.
The trick is figuring out which model corresponds to your current item since the save file sees items with their respective game name.
For instance the axe Bloom is gen_im_wep_war_two_lore_05 in your save game file but when we look at the item_variations.gda file (I changed it into a two-handed Arishoks sword model) we have to look at each item model and guess until we find the corresponding model which was w_axe_ax017a while the Arishoks base model was w_gsw_002a.
We also have to remeber to change the filepath loaction that the game looks in for the respective model. For Bloom the filepath is art\\characters\\weapons\\greataxes, but if we want it to find the correct model for the Arishoks sword then we need the correct filepath which is art\\characters\\weapons\\unique\\arishok.
This can be just as easily done with armor.
Once you've made the edit you save the file as item_variations.gda stick it in your override folder and your good to go. If you feel like making further changes just open the item_variations.gda file in your override folder.
If you get your hands on the GFF editor and find the file this is very easy to do. I'll be starting my own topic briefly on how this can be accomplished with screenshots and everything so hang in there if you are having trouble.
