HI everyone,
I just got to act 3 and I'm getting the bug where when I visit Merrill, she is crying in front of the mirror (out of order cut scene).
My question is - should I wait and not even talk to her until I get whatever quest that's for? Or will I even get that quest without talking to her?
What I can I do to get the proper quest to show up?
Can I still complete the Romance?
I'm on the Xbox so I can't use the debug console to fix this.
Thanks!
Anyway around the act 3 Merrill quest bug?

I went on a bit from this point (with my game in the "broken" state) but I don't seem to bet getting any more quests from her. I don't want to continue until I can verify that I will be able to finish her quest line.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get her line to show up?

This bug occurs on my system too. I'm getting rather annoyed; wonderful as it is, this game was clearly not ready to be released. I wonder what a few more months of polish may have achieved.

If the bug occurs there is no way to work around it as far as i am aware, either it's there or some are fortunate and it's not.
It doean't mess up the romance if you just make the quest turn out according to the scene you got. (Which should be avoiding killing the clan)

I'm on Xbox 360 and I think the problem is that the quest checks for Max Rivalry/Friendship without checking if A New Path is completed. How I came to this conclusion:
1st Playthrough - Did not encounter this bug whatsoever and I only hit Max Rivalry after Pride's End.
2nd Playthrough - A replaying of the first playthrough while using a guide to do all those annoying time-specific non-marker related side quests in which the only thing I did differently is have Merril present when burning one of Tarohne's books earning 10 rivalry points.
-Giving her the Sylvanwood ring ended up maxing out rivalry making her cry the next time I spoke with her.
-When I waited until A New Path had been unlocked, she asked for assistance, then I was able to give her the ring. She did not cry when I next spoke to her because I earned friendship points for agreeing to help thus keeping me 5 points short of max.
So, the best way to avoid the bug is to deliberately keep her from maxing rivalry/friendship either by switching between choices she disproves/approves of or leaving her at home. If Merril needs to be maxed to have her move in then maybe you're auto-screwed. I haven't Merrilmanced yet, so I don't know the criteria behind it.
However, she does give the quest A New Path even after the crying scene. Upon completion of said quest, the crying scene won't play and it won't show up in the journal. I have no idea how it may affect save file transfers in the future.

I think approval has something to do with it, since it seems the only common factor, but i'm not sure how it plays in. Just to test things, I used a savegame editor to reduce Merrill's approval to 80 before talking to her in Act III, and I still got the bugged scene.
