I know there's a massive thread about this just a bit up, but I don't want to know much about the actual results of the bomb he's making. But I have to comment.
Come on, sending me on a quest to fetch the ingredient for gunpowder, and then the mother commenting that she hopes Anders has found a 'balm' for his soul? For anyone that recognized salt petre from the name or description, I gotta say, this is like foreshadowing with a mallet to the head.
Though I would've preferred that, since he knows how to make gunpowder, that we start making guns instead, like the Dwarves wanted to.

Guns are too OP atm.
Try again later.
Maybe give them incredible damage but a poor hit rate so you often get glancing blows and miss.

Its a tangental point, but I highly doubt that the primitive hand cannons that would be within the capabilities of Dragon Age would be any more powerful than magic. Much less so.

Really now? I remember them having some beastly exploding power (oh ho ho) but that's about it.

Don't remember if it was in the Codex or on the Dragon Age wiki site i read it. but the exploding power they have might be Blackpowder/Gunpowder
