In the quest where you have to look for evil tomes around kirwall and destroy them, what happens if you read them and not destroy them? I read the first one I found so far, it granted me stat points but I had to fight Shades. Are there any neggative reprocussions of reading and not destroying these tomes?

Read one and the quest can't be completed.
Take one and you get a junk item that has to be sold to a vendor and the quest can't be completed.
Destroy them all and an area opens up that has you fight an optional boss with decent loot and the quest completes.

You're better off just reading the final one that appears for the stat boost rather than one of the earlier ones.

Is there any way to debug this quest on the debug console? I read the first book, but destroyed the last 4. Now the quest won't finish, and I really don't want to go ALL the way back to like 20 hours of saves to do it all over again.

Also, I've noticed that if Merril likes you enough, and you're further along in the story. Her rivalry will not go up if you destroy the books.

So do you get bonus points for each one you read, or just the final one?  I took them all then curiosity led me to read one and I got a nice surprise.  But I regretted not reading all of them...

But I got a stat boost by reading the first one.
