According to   this thread in the main forum, Steam will be offering a pre-load, though the time hasn't been determined yet. This is according to a poster's correspondence with Valve. He did provide a screenshot confirming Valve's response. Don't switch to D2D just yet!

Well... negates the response for anyone to post the "SS or it didn't happen!"

This makes me happy!

Hey I asked him and he delivered!  I just asked Steam myself.  Fingers crossed.

I can't imagine D2D getting preload and Steam not. That would be a coup of litigious proportions... If ya know what I mean.

Only if it breaks any contractual agreements, and my feeling is that EA doesn't mind pre-loading so long as it doesn't compromise security. I suspect that the timing is up to teh digital retailers - it's an involved process setting up a big digital download like DA:O across multiple regions.

Hey, thanks for pointing out that post. Easy to get lost in that thread. I had assumed steam would do it if D2D was doing it, but it's nice to see more confirmation than my assumptions.

BioWare replied in that thread that they are currently negotiating pre-load arrangements with Valve and EA.

I'm not sure it's negotiations. I think it's more of a dealing with technical hurdles. I hope they let us know either way before the weekend.  :?

With or without the pre-load, does the game unlock at midnight on November 3 or at 12 noon on November 3 on either D2D or Steam?

10 am PST on D2D. Steam /seems/ to be either noon or 1pm PST. Not sure why steam keeps lagging on such things.

Am I the only one that can't help but hear that in Anthony Daniels' voice?

"Oh, thank the maker!" C3PO gushed as the warm oil flooded his sand-scoured joints.

It happens every time I hear it in the novels as well.

Steam sometimes pushes content quietly on pre-ordered stuff - I noticed that when I ordered Tropico 3 and it had already populated the directory on my hard drive before the actual release date. I don't think they do it for all games, but it was interesting to see that it does sometimes happen...

+1

This would also be a ripe time for an "I told you so".  It takes time.  And this is a large game.

Seeing as how I have to work during the day anyways, if Steam lets me pre-load, that won't be a problem.

Great. I would still like to see some official statement. Still seems sketchy.

that is awesome news. I'd like to warn people using "PST" though, in canada, we're changing to Daylight saving time this week-end... so it may be "PDT"

@ Vylan

Ha! Me too. Poor Threepio... if only he knew the truth. Bioware might have chosen a more creative name for the game's deity, IMO.

Wow, that link you provided won't work AT ALL. I was able to enter the forums directly and browse to the thread, then read the dev tracker from it.. Wow.. odd..

Same here. The link did not work for me.

[Edit]
On a plus side, seeing the old forum made me realize how much I missed its format >.<;;;

Link works again I guess, and agree about the old format. Especially how easy it is to navigate to dev posts.
