I wanna try Mass Effect, but I can't find the demo on the web to download.  And wow, have I looked!

Why is it so hard to find?  And yes, I know the full game in downloadable form is only $20US, but I wanna try the demo first before I buy it.  Yeah, I guess I'm not gonna buy that without trying the demo first.

So how can I acquire this inexplicably elusive demo to play?

NOTE: READ CAREFULLY!  I'm plainly not asking for the demo for Mass Effect 2, okay people?  I would think that Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 are two entirely different games, EVEN THOUGH they have similar titles and one is a sequel to the other.  Get it? ???  So please, don't try to give me the demo for Mass Effect 2 INSTEAD of what I've asked for, eh?  If I want that, well that one seems really very easy to find!  :P

Please help!  Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure there was a public release of a demo for ME1.

I don't think there is a public demo for Mass Effect 1. It is worth it though, I bought it on Games on Demand through Xbox Live.

I've searched around and it seems that, as the others said, there isn't any Mass Effect demo. But it is definitely worth the money.

One thing you should think about is buying a real boxed version of the game it's usually cheaper to buy boxed versions of games then electronic versions especially when they are a little older. At least in Sweden where I live not sure how it is in the States but around here I can buy Mass Effect for as little as 49 SEK (~7,6 USD).

There isn't a demo for ME1. If you use Steam eventually it should go on sale for $5 or so.

Ah, thanks for the replies.

Hmm, now that is strange!  Usually the release of a demo is kinda standard.  I wonder why EA and/or BioWare neglected to make and release one for Mass Effect. ???

Eeh, I'm guessing that the game is good, but I wonder if it's worth it for me to buy it before I get my newer, bigger, better computer (which it may be a bit of time before I can buy it).  I think that's also a good reason that demos are released, just so that the consumer can make sure that the product works well enough on their system BEFORE purchase.

Hmm, I do wanna play, but I'm just not sure whether or not I'm going to buy it anytime soon, as long as I am using my current system....

Oh, and I do use Steam.  Send me a message if you wanna add me there, as I like to play, and have quite a few games via Steam hehehe

What are the specifications of your current system? Mass Effect doesn't really require much computing power. You could try the ME2 demo if that works then ME1 should work fine as well.

Here are my specs:

The video-card is an ATI Radeon HD 4670 for APG @ 1GB VRAM.  But I'm worried about the RAM and CPU speed (or lack of, as the case may be).

Here also is my DirectX Diagnostic Tool report:

Gee, I dunno.  Well what do you think? ???

The graphics and the ram will be more than enough, I'm not sure about the cpu though. I'm running Mass Effect 1 and 2 (and Dragon Age) on a budget laptop with a singlecore AMD V120 (2.2Ghz) cpu, 2Gb ram and a HD 4250. So it is possible to run with a weak cpu (and gpu) but since yours is an very old P4 which is worse than mine it's hard to say for certain.

I'm going to say that it'll probably work on low to possibly medium settings but try the ME2 demo first to be sure.

Hmm, well okay.

I wasn't going to bother with the Mass Effect 2 demo, thinking that there would be no question as to it NOT working (and that I never play sequels without having played all predecessors through first hehehe), but okay.

I guess that if it does work even a little, then Mass Effect will surely also work.  I don't think the Mass Effect 2 demo will work, but I guess it can't, like, hurt my computer to try? ???  Okay, here goes nothing! hehe
