Can someone tell me a few decisions in non-fenris related quests that give him approval? I'm trying to romance him as a mage and finding it a bit difficult.

Well I think anything to do with helping mages you have to leave him behind or he'll disapprove. I mean you could have a rivalry romance but you might not like the end result.

- Anything where you hurt slavers, he approves of.
- He likes you to shoot first and ask questions later.
- Always have him mess somebody up when the option is available.
You can romance him with rivalry, too, remember. Some people like the rivalry version better. He's more gentle and sweet in friendship, and more passionate and unrestrained in rivalry.

when you talk to him at first, I had a male character and avoided all romance with any males, specially anders the first time you talk to the guy he hits on you. Anyways if you are playing a female character and want the elf dude, then eh first time you talk to him there should be a romance starter.

I get rivalry from him in almost any conversation, in real life we would hate each other XD. I only hope all that rivalry doesn't make him leave my party.

Choose the red dialogue option when it comes to talking to mages about demons, blood magic etc.
(e.g. when you go with Merrill to the mountain-top altar and she removes the barrier using blood magic, use the re answer). That will give you approval points.

As somebody said: oppose slavery. Free slaves.
Even during mage quests, you don't really have to be mean to mages. If you agree that the circle is necessary (not great) you get some approval.
During that quest when you've got the templar that may or may not be possessed, saying that there is a risk that the templar might be possessed gives you approval from Fenris.
