Well I may start a poll about it but after sometime finishing the game I can say

1 . Aveline : She had everything we could ask from a Female warrior . Can be a Caring old sister or a Scolding one. Maybe the most stable companion you have  Even though she may seem dull since she is ''much normal'' considering rest of the story , she has a great personal story and her banter...just makes me say '' We needed a woman like this in our party for a long time '' Great job with her Bioware.

2. Varric : No need to say much since he can explain it better himself when you play and he deserved to be the narrative. My second favorite after Aveline.

3. I would say Bethany but I may sound biased and she is just with us as an actual companion in Act one soo I will say Merrill. Yea I know I fell for her cuteness and naiveness but she is smart and talented also. Loving and caring. Willing to do the things for her people even though they might be wrong. She just needs a guidance along the way and my Hawke is happily willing to do it.



Well lets see what are your options ? Lets not flame other's decisions by saying '' but he is Insane ! '' since everyone has their preferences.

1. Varric, so hilarious, so sweet, so mothering. I love that he's the only companion it's almost impossible to get to hate you, you need to be a douche of legendary proportions. He has amazing voice acting, his narration is great, and you can tell that he keeps making himself sound awesome while telling the story. His introduction -- LOL. Amazing banters with everyone. He's just such a sweet bro of a dude.

2. Fenris. I'm a dumb girl and he made my heart melt. So intense, so badass, so damaged, so complicated, so angry. This has to be the most tragic backstory ever. Loved his personal quests and his romance. He's such a mess.

3. IDK, Bethany or Isabela. I would have liked a little more depth that you can access earlier with 'Bela -- it's there, but it takes a long while to get to it. She's someone who would have benefited from a few "let's talk about your history while we stand around" conversation trees. Bethany is just so, so sweet, she was such a good person that even FENRIS admitted she was strong enough to handle being a mage.

1. Varric is the coolest character in the game, very supportive of good actions and all.Plus a lot of his attacks are very effective, funny as hell and a good add on to the party.

2. Guard Captain Aveline, she is great as a character of good and all, pretty great tank in a fight.

3. Anders <I hate his guts> but he is a good healer and well effective Mage, just hate him right now for what he did, and yes I kept the terrorist Mage and Sebastian walked off.

1. Varric. No explanation necessary.

2. Isabela. Yes, she's a provocative pirate wench, but she's damned proud of it and always has a hi-larious comment to make.

3. Merril. At the risk of losing my man-card, it is entirely because of the d'aww factor. Not to mention how all the party members treat her like a little sister, especially Varric.

When I need a tank, I bring Aveline. It's interesting watching her relationship with Isabela go from "I can't stand you." to "You're alright... for a pirate wh**e.", the latter opinion Isabela seems to bear with honor.

D:  How can I exclude the siblings?!  Carver is freakin' awesome.  The relationship between Hawke and Carver is one of the most realistic and complex in the game, IMO.  The resentment, the bickering, and the sibling rivalry but also the deep love and protectiveness between them?  SO awesome.

If I must exclude Carver, though... hmm.  It's hard.  Just like every Bioware game, I love all the companions.

1. Anders.  An unbelievably fascinating character... it's horrifying to watch his life and arguably his sanity trainwreck from Act 1 to Act 3, especially if you've played Awakening.

2. Varric. I wasn't expecting for him to be such a bro.  I really appreciated Hawke having a stable best friend like him at her back.

3. Isabela, simply because I love her friend relationship with Hawke.  I think the clickable dialogue in the Hawke estate solidified it for me, with Isabela borrowing Hawke's dresses without asking and such. XD

Isabela: Sarcasm for the win, and the fights between Aveline and Isabela is worth it 120%

!. Varric: He is practically your co-star in this game. good thing his is the most fun to have around. He absolutely loves to pull aggro and is constantly trying to die. His dps is only so-so, but I mostly play normal and could solo the game, so dps isn't a huge concern. He jsut strikes me as being he very last one sticking by you if things go horribly wrong, and I like that.

2. Merill: I adore her. You can respc her into a monster dps machine, but I mostly jsut keep her around because I enjoy her company.

3. Fenris: This guy is the work horse. He does more damage than the other two companions combined (unless you spec merill correctly). I sometimes wonder if he is even out-performing me.
I liek to play the game casually a few times to make sure I have the mechanics correct, an then I begin to work my way up by first switching to hard, the ndropping companions until I am doing hard solo, the nswitch to nightmare.

Fenris will be my crutch on my nm duo whenever I get there in a few months I think.

Well since Bethany is out of the running, she would have ranked 1st.
1. Varric: Great lines and the only person who can make a crossbow look manly.
2. Isabela: Her humor was great, interaction with everyone was great. Loved that in many cutscenes it looks like she is trying to get along with everyone. Put it this way I wouldn't mind DLC where I get to sail on Isabela's ship... and no there is no sexual connotation meant in that remark.
3. Aveline: Great female warrior with great depth.

I've never had such a hard time deciding on favorite characters. More than any other rpg I've played, I rotate team members constantly. However, when **** really hit the fan in Act II, I immediately chose Aveline, Varric, and Fenris.

1) Isabela: Well written. She was my love interest... even though she does some very bad things, I knew if I stuck with her she would redeem herself. Really hoping for Isabela DLC.

2) Varric: This one is just a given. Laid back and you know he will always be there when you need him.

3) Aveline: She is perhaps the most "normal" of the bunch. She sticks with what she believes in.

Anders - My Hawke's romance I always had him with me as my Warden did in Awakening. His mood swings were interesting to say the least but I love him all the same. I mean.. my Hawke does..
Fenris - his voice is amazing!! Romancing him on my second playthrough and I like how normal he seems, like when talking to Aveline about her husband coming round to his house and stuff
Aveline was like Hawke's BFF but I didn't like her fighting style.. so Varric he's just funny!
Carver would be in there, but excluding siblings.

My 'Top 3':

Varric ~ Suave Dwarven stallion.
Merrill ~ Little Blood Elven cutie.
Aveline ~ Level-headed tank and invaluable friend.

Varric: He's totally obvious, dwarves seem to always make good characters and I dunno why. He has humor, he's incredibly sarcastic and sits in a tavern all day. What is there not to like? Also, the voice acting on him is great, really enjoyed him talking inbetween the acts.

Merrill: This is probably one of the most different characters I have seen in a game. Also a bit of comic relief which is necesary when every other quest is about death, destruction and abuse. Again, great voice acting and the character is overall very interesting. Me being fond of the Dalish probably helps, too.

Anders: I thought that he was "alright" in Awakening. He felt a bit too much like Alistair though iirc with the goofyness, looks and I think the voices were pretty similar too. This was remedied very well in DA2, he's very different which is explained well with him merging with Justice, a table-turner I really liked. Also, blowing up the Chantry is bad-ass.

1: Isabela: Love her to death. She is a great complex character with alot of paths her romance can take. Plus she reminds me of Han Solo alot with a vulgar attitude.

2: Aveline: She was a great surprise. Well written, a good friend to Hawke and great in combat.

3: Varric: Again a good surprise. I was expecting Oggy 2.0 and what I got was a fantastic character, good for a warrior or mage who can't pick locks.

Varrick: Seem like someone I would get along with real life down the pub with his sence of humor.
Isabela: Seems like a lady that knows how to have fun and also good humor.
Fenris: liked how he can tank and do good damage better then Aveline other then that my 3rd is hard to decide.

Varric, Fenris and Aveline

1. Anders. I adored his personality, he's good looking (sorry if that seems like a shallow reason to some of you), and he's the most useful companion in any battle as far as I'm concerned because of his healing and revival abilities.

2. Fenris. I love the party banter between him and Anders. Great voice actor. And he is a very powerful melee fighter and the only warrior companion that I like.

3. Sebastian. He has an innocence and kindness about him that I found enticing, although I hate the Chantry I chalk his devotion up to naivity and I accept it for that. I like his Guardian Angel skill, and his power with the bow. He also has some interesting banter with Anders and Fenris.

Honorable Mention. Isabela. I respect the fact that she is a strong, no-nonsense woman. She is very humorous and offers amusing banter with any of the other companions.

Fenris - He's broody, passionate, and i just find him fascinating in general. Also, apparantly protective. Heh...

Varric - Hillarious in his own right, but when paired with anyone he;s even more so. Also, a damned good archer and loyal friend. Plus, his reaction to his brother (assuming you have Anders with you and he does his thing) is heartbreaking.

Isabella- just as hillarious. She also strikes me as the type of girl Id want have as a friend. She also does hint at vulnerability.

Runner up: Anders. He's ok in a pure friendship path, but his romance is so adorable and moving.
