1. Fenris. Always in the party. The guy is too great to leave in his gloomy mansion. And I think I managed to spec him quite well so he just destroyes anything on his way. Nice melee counterbalance to my blood/force Mage elementalist. Not to mention a great rival

2. Varric. Best friend and atypical dwarf. He and Fenris do have a little elf-dwarf rivalry

3. Hard to say, but I keep rotating Isabela, Aveline and Anders

When I need a tank, I bring Aveline. It's interesting watching her relationship with Isabela go from "I can't stand you." to "You're alright... for a pirate wh**e.", the latter opinion Isabela seems to bear with honor.

THIS!! Especially the part about Merrill. I luv the way Varric and Isabela play off her.

Here's my favorite trio. I'm playing as female magician.

1. Fenris. Dreamysigh. At first I was annoyed by him as everything I did he was rival against, and then when I started to learn about him - so tragic, so intense. Loved him enough to romance him on two playthroughs just to see the rival/friend differences.

2. Varric. He is absolutely hilarious, spunky, but a downright softie underneath it all.

3. Isabela. She is every bit the piratey wench that she should be. I still want to kill her for abandoning me the first time around.

1. Anders, because his fight deeply resonates with me. He's a well-written, deep and thought-provoking character.

2. Varric, because he's just adorable.

3. Aveline, because she surprised me. Before release I was sure I was going to hate her, but I really, really like her motherly attitude toward Hawke.

Anders is great too, but my relationship with him is like the one I had with Morrigan: I deeply loathe him as a person, but love him as a character.

 1. Isabela (Has a very deep storyline, you have to peel back her defenses to get to know her {kind of like Miranda}, she was my love interest)
2. Varric (One of the funniest characters, love his dialogue. Plus he is the best friend you always    want around)
3. Aveline (I needed a tank)

Played as a mage hybrid, healer/dps.

Varric: Not only is he my bro, but he kicks ass in combat. Get him the passive that allows him to have benefits from the other two buffs while Speed is active, upgrade the speed buff and Bianca's song, give him the rune from his Act 3 companion quest, and watch him autoshot bosses down like its nobody's business.

Merrill: She's adorable, she's funny, and Walking Bomb is seriously OP.

My third character depends on my difficulty. On Casual or Normal I like Isabela, but on my hard mode run I find that I downright NEED Aveline.
