If you don't mind the spoilers...
You can convince him to leave the Chantry and take back Starkhaven - he'll take you with him if you romanced him, saying that he will wait until he gets back his throne to give Hawke "no less than a prince". I think that you have to become Viscontess, however. I've never tried it siding with the mages for the Battle of Kirkwall. Hope that helped!

Ooo I like that option better than that silly 'chaste marriage' thing.
Does he only go back to Starkhaven on rivalry path? I find it interesting that Fenris and Sebastian seem like they should be so different, yet I have them both 100% friendship because they agree on so much.

It's ambiguous but there are hints that he will leave the chantry and go back to Starkhaven anway.
