I just started the deep roads; I have killed the dragon and moved on to this HUGE demonic rock like thing that I cannot defeat. I have 2 mages, that darn dwarf with his stupid arrows that dies all the time and me and of course my dog.  Why can I not defeat this thing?  Whenever I try and hit it, it smacks me back so I can't even get near it.
I have to continuallly switch through my toons to heal them. I have it on their tactics to heal themselves at 25% with potions, but they never use it! Is that a bug or something?  I also have Anders to heal everyone, he has lots of mana gain and mana pool stuff on. I have it on his tactics to rez someone when they die and he doesnt not do it.
And if you don't hit something within a few seconds, it takes a while to get back in the battle mode and hit again...weird.

Anyhoo...can someone tell me what is the best party to take down there to defeat this guy? And what's with the "Don't take the sister down there?" What will happen if I take Bethany with me?

Swtich to casual and have all companions on the boss while using varrack to attack the small adds, when the boss fires a red beam hide behind a pillar, and if you take bethany you have to kill her bevause she gets darkspawn corruption

I guess I never thought of doing the boss in an easy like mode. Thanks for letting me know about Bethany, I'll be sure to leave her at home. I was thinking if I did not bring Bethany down to the Deep Roads that..while I was gone, the Templars would take her to the gallows lol. Well, that would've been another story to persue. I'll try easy mode and see if it works.

i also think you can bargain with the Rock Wraith demon, can't you? I know I got to a point where I could have done so, but reloaded, because I wanted to fight it.

Getting behind a pillar during the red light phase, whatever that ability is, definitely helps!

The rock demon is only damageable for a certain period of time. He will fall apart and be vulnerable. Then reform and start this red glowy whirlwind type cast. The cast will damage your group if they are in line of sight. You can hide behind the 4 pillars that are around him and you will not get hurt. Once he finishes the cast he will fall apart and groups of the smaller rock creatures will spawn. The number of them get larger as the fight progresses. Initialy i think you get 6 then 8 then 10. (I could be wrong though). Kill the smaller rock guys, and then got back to the big guy who is reconstructing himself.

Yes, in order to avoid the damage cast, you must use the HOLD here group command or your companions are going to go back into the open and get hurt. Doggie is kind of out of luck in this fight.

For Bethany you have 3 choices:
Leave her in Kirkwall and the Templars find her or
Take her along and have her get corrupted and then be forced to kill her.
Take her and Anders along and she gets corrupted but Anders allows you to bring her to the Grey Wardens.
