i'd imagine its alot easier to hold aggro with a warrior hawke since you'd be able to do significantly more damage than aveline could

I went s/s for my first playthru. Loved shield bashing people.

i played as s/s warrior myself, but it was a bit of a luck luster...
so around lvl 13 i decidet to go 2H and it was funny as hell (black emporium helps with class switches^^). as in generall i can say that the berserker tree is a REAL luck luster... so i went 3points in reaver (for the passive and the enhanced lifesteal) and just far enough in the templar tree to unlock the 50% magres. the rest is invested in 2H, vanguard and 3 points in battlemaster (for second wind and the passive samtina reg). just real funny how quick and efficient you kill larger groups of enemies^^ also i soloed the high dragon with that build, just for the lolz, and to prove that his AI is crapy as hell xD
if you want to make it interesting try a high risk, high reward method by disableing your mage's heal on yourself and deal tremendous amounts of damage thx to the reaver passive
as for stats i tried to go 50/50 in con and str till mid game and 60/40 after that... also i got my will to 16 to be able to instant skillspam/ kill groups and still be able to cast anything that comes out of CD. but as i said-> berserker was the only real luck luster since it basicly only enhanced your basic attacks... and improved cleave does that better... and in a more efficient way

Sword & Board DPS is tons of fun for me, just splattering people with a shield bash or the little shield charge closing attack. He's only level 11, but so far I've just picked up Shield Bash + upgrade, Assault, Taunt (only melee in my party most times), and then been going down Vanguard and Reaver. Hitting upgraded Cleave + the sacrifice skill in Reaver and then Assaulting 3-4 enemies at a time just rocks.

You could probly do something similar to the ultimate vanguard guide http://social.biowar...5/index/6396096 but substitute the 2-hander tree with s/s. Tons of burst and aoe damage with a lot of survivability. I'm actually going to try this myself.

My first play was sword and shield through level 15 or so. It seemed ok, but holding aggro has less to do with the sword and shield warrior doing her job, than using other classes talents to help it along. No biggy, thats what those talents are for.
Then I played another run with an companion two-hander being my 'tank'. Oh my gosh, it is like cheating, easier to get mass aggro and hold aggro without taunt, stuff dies faster, and with the addition of that activated damage soaking one deep defense skill, he really wasn't much less of a tank than a full build built for defense, and much makes up for it by things dying faster, and not needing to go 4 or 5 deep into rogue trees to play with aggro xfer or mass crowd control abilities.
@ Soyoman.....yes I think my next sword and shielder will be built for damage, and see if that goes better than building an all defense warrior that npcs ignore. No sure how it will work out, the aoe reach of the 2handers is a major part of its mass aoe aggro?

I'd imagine if you give your rogue the upgraded Fatiguing Fog so that it disorients everything, playing as S&S could be even more fun. I did this on my DW Rogue Hawke and gave Aveline Scatter + Disperse. It's fun watching my "tank" make whole groups of stuff explode due to the cross-class combo on everything in her frontal cone.
That said, I'll probably be playing a 2H warrior Hawke my second playthrough. Been looking at the Vanguard guide posted in these forums and it looks like a lot of fun.
