Hello to the many of the I hate fenris believers, many dislike the elf for such reasons as he hates all mages and that he is a hypocrate even betrayes you and sides with the crazy woman witht he 2 handed sword Meredith. Talks about freedom yet hates all mages and their lot, simply because well he lived in a place where mages rule, living in a place where mages dont rule is well kind of awkward for him so he hates mages.
I eh felt like doing this post because the guy is completely terrible in the way he does things, seriously I got rivalry points when I told him to not kill his sister, varric was in the party and he told him not to as well. The dude is mental even if the sister did betray him and all, no reason to go mental.

he doesn't betray you if you maxed out his friend/rival bar, you didn't, that's why he betrayed you.

Also considering he was a slave, and magic literally stole everything from him, I think he has the right to be a little bitter about it.

I can understand the hate that some people have for him, really I can, but I feel like most of the points you brought up are understandable for him. :-/

The only good thing about Fenris is his voice IMO. The character did not click to me at all.

I can understand your hatred for him.
Look past the physical appeal and there is a very damaged personality there.
I do like his voice and his persona was scripted well. Good job.

I became friends with him and we drank wine out of the bottle and fist-bumped like a couple of best buds. You just have to see the good side of a character.

For instance I absolutely hate that Merrill has such a weak will when it comes to demons, but I still love the character once I got comfortable with her.

I can understand not liking him, but the reasons you gave are pretty silly. I personally like him a lot. In fact I like all of the characters.

I like all the characters, but Fenris is definately difficult to put up with sometimes.

I think he's a bit like Sten. People seem to either love him or hate him.  Just a matter of your tolerance for some things, your(or your Hawkes') opinions... what issues you can look past for what is beyond them.
Is it not nice, at least, to have a character who's not constantly "omg you are so right Hawke!", and instead has an opinion on the opposite side of what most of your companions think and feel? Without him, opinions in the group would be unbalanced.

I wouldn't say that he hates mages as people, rather he sees their gift/ curse as inherently dangerous, whereas he was chained just for being an elf. From that perspective, a mage is a disaster waiting to happen, not a person. It's pessimistic, but DA2 gives you plenty of reason to believe he's got a point.

He gives rivalry points when you oppose him, but he also backs down at your urging. I don't see rivalry points as a bad thing. People can respect each other and disagree sharply.

But, you do have a point about his rage being equivalent in its own way to a mage who can be tempted by a demon. He's hypocritical. Most of the NPCs are, on one issue or another.

You should remember that Rivalry points aren't like the minus approval system in Origins. I felt that they're based off a 'We disagree on some core concepts, but I respect your views. But watch as I show you up in the next fight!' sort of thing.

Personally, I loved how companions had set beliefs and morals that aren't diminished quickly by the PC, as I thought they could be in Origins. It makes them seem more real to me. I also loved the fact that Hawke didn't have to flit around his/her beliefs like the Warden sometimes had to in Origins if they wanted to be on good terms with the companions.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, the reason some people will hate him are the same reasons others will love him. YMMV, as they say.

Mmm you make it seem like his hate for mages is irrational when you gave a logical point? What? I respect your dislike for him, your reasoning is just rather silly. (: He's human, so to speak. Irrational and stupid, just like most of us. That's part of what makes him an enjoyable character. He's not completely blind about it either, as he is willing to look past his hate when it matters.

Well Hmm all are pro Fenris, well its alright, you do have a point I have to remember that it does have that rivalry thing, but well either way he is kind of messed up. Though whom am I kidding that guy Anders really messed it up for everyone.

All the mages he had met before coming to Kirkwall were power-hungry blood mages; that doesn't recommend them to him.

Most of your companions seem that way when dealing with 'their main issue'. Anders is all for freedom, right to live and yet he'd kill an innocent templar for being a templar.

If you haven't earnt his respect, either by being a worthy friend or  a worthy rival, sure, he'll side with the person who closest mirrors his beliefs.

If you lived in a place where cats rule and you were tortured and denied basic human freedoms you'd hate cats. You'd be hard pressed to trust ANY cat, not just the striped cats that enslaved you. That doesn't make you a bad person, it makes you a cynic.

He has some deep issues. It's obvious from the start. Some people might dislike him because of that, but as the developers said, they make characters to suit all tastes. If there is nothing in the game for you, then they have failed.. but instead of focusing on how much you dislike Fenris how about focusing on how much you like Varric or whomever.  Making a hate-thread is ...sad.

I love Fenris. Romanced him on my first playthrough.

He only betrays you if you don't max out the friendship. And I didn't get any rivalry points for telling him not to kill his sister because once you are maxed in either direction, your choices don't affect the metre.

His grudges make sense to me. I still sided with the mages but can definately see why he hates them. He's never had a chance to meet any good mages. Even in Kirkwall 99% of the mages you meet are blood mages who are evil and try to kill you.

I dislike him, do not totally hate him, but just dislike him. He DID ask for what was done to him, he was abused by 1 mage.... 1! get over your emo self man!

I was ok with him, right up to the point where he turned against me and I had to kill him. Now that was a stupid move. I kill everything, yet people still oppose me. He knows I kill everything. He has seen it firsthand. I told him we didn't have to fight, but he insisted that he be given the chance to die by my greataxe. I granted him that last wish, he was a boon companion once. I just figured since he knew how dangerous it was to oppose me, he would think better of it.

That's a good enough reason for me to like him.

He was my least favorite companion in a group where I liked every other companion... except him. I think I liked Meredith more than Fenris. I'll leave it at that.
