The story and being railroaded into certain choices. Reused maps is close though.

single biggest issue to me was that i thought every companion other than varric was uninteresting.

My biggest issue is the betrayal.

A dev studio that I had thought would never wrong me decided it was high time to cash in on that loyalty.

combat: the waves of enemies, and the fact that rogues get pwned by staggers constantly from trash mobs in the later acts. I'm halfway through Act III with my rogue, and I'm having trouble making myself finish the game because I hate the combat so much (and no, it's not that I don't know how, I've won every fight on hard or normal, I just don't enjoy it.)

Lack of Warrior Archers
Lack of Dual Wield Warriors
Lack of Arcane Warrior
Lack of Strength Rogues

The 7 different reused maps.
The lack of race choices
The lack of background choices
The reused music

The bugged skills that don't work
The getting stuck
The falling under the scenery

Map reuse and an unchanging/uninteresting Kirkwall are tied. I mean, the entire game was set in ONE place. That place should be a freaking Disney World of activity and things to do.

1) The dialogue wheel and the three distinct personalities for Hawke.
2) The characters... just not very interesting with the exception of Varric and Isabella who grew on me after a while.
3) The impossibility to speak to my party members ANYWHERE I want and the lack of dialogue with them.
4) The re-used maps.

The constant waves of enemies/reinforcements. You fight a group of mercenaries and then like ten more just pop up out of no where. It doesn't make sense.

Re-used maps. That was sloppy. But that can be fixed by a patch or Mod, I think.

OK, I can't help it. I have one more that REALLY bothered me.

Showing me all that armor that I can't use. Even worse, all that armor that my companions can't use.

Showing me the armor, is like some guy standing next to me at the urinal. Not being able to use it for anything is like that guy peeing directly onto my shoe.

My biggest gripe... probably the over the top combat animations and exploding enemies.

Damn. That's what I was going to say.

Only, without the "probably.'

Seems many are either unable to count, or unable to read. One or the other.

If I had to pick one thing, it was the total lack of interesting environments in the game. Kirkwall just anywhere near large enough or interesting enough to justify setting the entire game here. Not even close. It became tiresome a quarter of th way into the game.

My close second was the relatively dry team that you had. Varric and Merrill were pretty cool but the rest really didn't shine like other bioware characters do - Carver and Avelline in paticular were so generic that they seemed lik they'd been upgraded to team mates from basic NPCs at the last minute. That said, I can get away with this so long as there's enough interesting team mates to create a team. I just think that, considering how many brilliant characters you had to choose from in DA:O, it's shame they're so thin on the ground. But by far, the lack of environments were my greatest bugbear.

Recycled maps to the point that it's hard to want to complete the game. The linearity of the maps makes it even more claustrophobic.

Also the waves of enemies spawning out of nowhere is very very annoying. The maps though, or the lack of maps, is really the worst. It's horrible. It's so non-epic in a game that tries desperately to be epic.

Everyone's picking apart DA2, walls of text listing dozens of complaints. Focus it. Narrow it down to just one, big, glaring issue that you can't ignore.

For me, it was the recycled maps.

Oh...difficult! So many things to choose from! Uh.... The biggest issue..... Crap. I don't think I can do this. One of art style, ridiculous repetative combat or forced cinematic conversations.

Just a sec. I have to flip a coin. They're all too annoying to choose between. Okay, first coin toss, art style over combat. Second coin toss....art style wins over conversation style.
And the loser is...Art Style!

Gah! I forgot the crappy inventory system. Well, never mind. I'll stay with art style as the greatest annoyance.

There's already a Mod for that. :wizard: Works like a charm. I believe they are working on companions inventory too. So get over to DA Nexus and enjoy!

This, they didn't make a Dragon Age game, they made Mass Effect 2 in a fantasy setting.

Just one thing? Tricky. Probably the stupid spawning of waves on top of you for no obvious reason, destroying all tactical play.

And the combat feeling like Diablo. Oh. Hold on. I cant do just one thing...

Recycled maps. Don't know why with a wysiwyg toolset they couldn't knock out fresh areas by the dozen. I enjoyed the game, but that first act with all the running around saving up 50g seeing the same areas over and over and over and over and over again....

For me it was the un-necessary, self imposed restrictions on the spells and skill building of the characters. My mage couldn't learn Elvhen magic or be a Spirit Healer etc.. The spells existed in the game, but they restricted each character to only being built a certain way.

Good idea for a thread, but really, picking out one top issue isn't really that relevant to me personally. There are so many finer points that make or break a game like this, and DA2 broke pretty much all of them. Picking the one biggest issue runs the risk of detracting from the countless smaller issues that work together to make the game an all-round mediocre experience.

Shorter in length than it's predecessor.

Other than that, I quite liked it.

Could have been longer though (honestly, 20 hours??)
