this concerns the "all that remains" quest when your mother is kidnapped
when you see her stitched together i assumed the rather grim truth that she was dead and it was just her head attached to a different body kept alive by magic
but then when the killer is dead she starts talking as if it was her body before dying
i would have assumed that as soon as the killer's control faded the body would simply collapse it basicly being a frankenstein creation with no real nerve connection between the head and the body parts
is there an explanation or did Bioware drop the ball on this one?
what just happened? *SPOILERS*

It was her head, so her brain and personality. I assume the killer was using blood magic to make her fight with him.

The quest is just there for sheer exploitation value. Having the mother giving a bawling exeunt while the player feasts his eyes on the freakish composite creature is the sole point of it.
Luckily with high fantasy you can say (and rightly so in this case) that a wizard did it, even though it technically didn't really seem to make sense.

Way you can look at it is that the Magic which animates her lingers for a short while after the death of the caster. During which, since the caster is dead, she is no longer under his domination. Thus she reverted back to her own will.
