I am a serious person, so I rarely have knack for cunning and witty remark. So I had to run that gambit in DA2. But Warden I played was Good (except one weakness for Dark Ritual, but that was on my 2nd play through because I think that is a better ending for import.).

Hawke is also Good. I sided with the Mages because what Meredith did is beyond concienable. Didn't side with mages because I believed their cause is better (which I don't) but because those specific mages that were going to be killed were innocent of the crime that caused the annulment.

My HN Warden is a "dry wit" kind of guy, he is nice but underneath that he is driven by self preservation as opposed to altruism or greed. He cares about doing what needs to be done to keep himself, his friends, and people alive and safe without caring much for their happiness or his desire for any luxuries. A "live and let live but if you shake the boat too much I'm going to murder-knife you kind of guy". Obviously he liked Morrigan, even if he disagreed with the finer parts of her "people and friends are useless" philosophy.

My Hawke was a much more happy-snarky type. Fell right in with Varric and Isabella but had the good intentions to even make Avaline and Fenris (despite being a mage) like him. He dislikes blood magic and demon bartering because it makes "the rest of us" look bad. He sided with the mages but then got disgusted by what Orsino and the rest did.

Oh man, so many playthroughs.

Raoune Aeducan (Rogue): Couldn't let go of the idea of being LADY Aeducan and was mean for it, then events with Alistair changed her into a lovesick puppy. By Awakenings she was kind-hearted, if not a little ruthless for the greater good.

Origin Hawke: Sula (Rogue) Possibly my most varied. Hides her fears behind humour and never really lets people in. Has a very strong, if not very variable moral code; for example doesn't believe in hurting mages, but will bribe people without question. In love with a character, but too stubborn to change for them in any way.

Vortigern Cousland: Selfish dick. Only wanted glory. Sold out Alistair, whom he found annoying, cheated on Morrigan with Leliana and Zevran, then ****ed them all over to become king.

Origin Hawke: Lyris (Mage). Sweet, naive, protective, gay. Meets Anders. Disaster ensues.

Mercy Amell: Bat**** crazy circle mage. Seriously chantry obsessed, believes she is demonic and can only get salvation through killing the Archdemon. Killed pretty much EVERYONE in her way, entered the final battle with only Alistair and Ohgren. Alistair tried to sacrifice himself instead, she was all "Butt out of my moment, ****!"

Origin Hawke: Clemency (Warrior). Mercy's cousin, tough as nails but slightly less insane. Still kills anyone who she thinks is in the way of "justice" though.

Warden: Female elf mage. She believed strongly in the Maker and in doing what is right, had Allistair, Wynne and Lelianna in her group. She fell for Lelianna and in the end she sacrificed herself.

Hawke:
Female warrior. She stood up for what she believed was honorable and good, although not very religious. She was a SnS tank, and very protective of her little sister which lead her to side with the mages. Her party consisted of Merrill, Anders and Varric. She fell for Merrill and tried to protect her from the poor choices she was making. She killed Anders because he had not only ruined any chance she had at working civilly towards a better tomorrow, but also because his actions would endanger Merrill and Bethany.

My main characters are always lesbians in a human+elf relationship, and I'm not really sure why. And they're always good, because I like being nice. :D

I play the game as myself, always do, so they were ultimately the same character (unless I have multiple personality disorder!)

isn't that kinda boring though?

My first and standard Warden is the kind of fantasy character I always play. A male human fighter( this time sword and shield) who is good and sometimes a little funny but always trying to set things right.
My first Hawke was a sarcastic jokester with a good heart using two handers so since they more or less have the same "basic" personality they would get along pretty good.
When they can't, because of the circumstances they would at least respect each other for the things they have done and/or their combat prowes.

My Warden was a "I dont give a **** about your problems. Give me my troops kinda guy" while my first Hawke was a "FREE THE MAGES OMFG ANDERS YOU ******!" kind of guy.

I played Hawke as a goodie goodie but after doing the sarcastic/jokey Hawke it'll be hard to go back to anything else.

I have finished several playthroughs so I'll focus on my main Warden and main Hawke.

Warden - Rosamond Ailith Cousland - slightly naive and idealistic rogue. gets crushed by hard choices but keeps her problems to herself. It takes time for her to open up. Falls in love with Alistair though she initially saw him as an adoptive brother.

Hawke - Grace Hawke - The avatar I'm using now. Rogue. Puts family above herself when she loses them, her companions became her family. More experience than Rosamond in a lot of things, but not much on love. Did not have time for love before the Blight because she thinks of her family first. Falls in love with Anders. Had 2 romance endings: one she goes with Anders and in the other, she does not go with him even though she did still love him. I personally favor the second because I do not want her to be a Bella Swann whose life would revolve around Edward after she falls for him.

And yes, both Rosamond and Grace favor the 'goody-goody' choices more. Especially Grace who would stand up for what she thinks is right even if she loses a few friends (and even though it would be painful for her). Compromises though when she refuses to kill Anders and lets him escape--even in the scenario when she does not leave with him

My Wardens were goodie goodies.

My Hawkes seem to be going more towards the jerkwad scale.

I have trouble playing through RPGs in "forced" mindsets that don't match my own, so my Hawke and Warden are pretty much identical in philosophy, though I felt that Hawke was more light-hearted purely on the basis that DA2 offered me more opportunities to make him so.

So far, I've only imported one Warden and played one Hawke, and I deliberately made them contrasting personalities. They were both good guys, but my Warden was always the diplomat and peacemaker while my Hawke picked the red fist most of the time. I think they'd agree on overthrowing Meredith, though.

To me?

The Warden was whatever the person next to him needed him to be. I told Morrigan I supported destroying the Circle, I told Wynne that the Circle was a great place, I told Lili that hearing voices in her head isn't crazy, and I lightly flirted with Zevran while slipping him gold bars.

Everyone in Redcliffe lives, the werewolves are freed and the Elves are alive, the Circle is restored, and Branka came to her senses and sacrificed herself.

All in all, the Warden can do anything the situation requires of him.

Hawke's simpler. Hawke's a mercenary willing to do anything for gold while helping his family. The more he tries to help his family the closer he gets to their deaths. Then he blames mages for his mother's death. As the last Hawke left he publicly supports the Knight-Commander and her strict practices in order to protect people and ensure that no one else looses someone they love because of a wild mage again.

And then Meredith betrays Hawke, who's sacrificed friends for the Templar cause, and Hawke is forced to defend him. Finally Hawke flees...alone and broken. The City of Chains has taken everything from him.

That's pretty much my Warden and Hawke.

My Warden (Xorn Cousland) was a no-nonsense kind of guy who stumbled about trying to figure out his place after his family died. He was always trying to find a peaceful solution to everything, even the darkspawn situation, but finally came to realize that it's not always that simple and sometimes people have to die in order to really fix problems. Eventually, he became "Mr. Fixit" and began helping people solve their problems no matter what side of the law they were on, even if it meant assassinating people in broad daylight. He fell in love with Morrigan even though they were complete opposites and became good friends with Wynne and the rest of the gang. Generally, he was a nice guy and fun to be around, but he didn't take any crap from anyone. His one moment of weakness was going through the ritual with Morrigan even though he knew it was going to lead to something bad. His plan is to ultimately fix that problem in the future. In the end, he was wise and more about the people than any particular group outside of the Grey Wardens. A group that he originally despised, but later accepted as his calling, thanks to Wynne giving him a nice pep talk about it.

Xavier Hawke was generally a nice guy who like to analyze situations and bring murderers to justice. He had no qualms about beating someone down in the street or helping the local guards with cases. His best friend was Aveline and they pretty much always rolled together. He doesn't care about mages one way or another, and is really only looking at each person individually and not really as a group, so he's always trying to protect those who are being oppressed in some way. Though, he loves Merrill, but has resigned to let her make the mistakes in order for her to fully understand what she's getting into. Generally, he's a nice guy, but sometimes is a bit of a jerk.

Warden Mage: He is a devote Andrastian but recognizes that even within the Chantry all is not pure he respects beliefs and tries to be diplomatic he'd be willing to die for his comrades and refuses to be an "ends justify the means" type of person.

Rogue Hawke: He is not religious and originally he was arrogant and selfish but when the death of Carver occurs he becomes obsessed with how the people view him he will almost always be diplomatic and agree with anyone even if deep down he disagrees (this was caused by Carvers death since Hawke remembers their rivalry and any rivalry reminds Hawke of Carver).
