I have been thinking this for a while now, this could be why she wants the god child, to save one of her brethren ?

Also from what Merill tells Hawke about the Elven old gods and how there were to factions: the creators and the forgotten, and then there was one who was in between (the dread wolf) who .... could Flemmeth perhaps be the in between old god who, as merill put it, -banished the others and "remained in this world" -  its all so confusing LOL

But it could explain what she is....

Im doing the story no justice, if u r interested this is a link to the DA wiki about it all

Its pretty obvious she is fen'harel, which is exactly who merrill was talking about. The Dread Wolf.

That would make sense

I would also suspect she was the one who caused the whole Blight thing.

If she's Dread Wolf then the ability to walk among both sects of Gods could be her duality as a Dragon and as a Human.

She might be one of the elder gods yes, or an off spring of them. I suppose we will have to wait for DA3 in 2012/13. or maybe if they love us like they should a DLC soon :)

Maybe Morrigan's raising of the OGB is an answer to Flemeth?

We've also found out how she survives being killed - she talks about the amulet you deliver as having a "part of herself" in it - reminds me of horcruxes from Harry Potter.

Well a lot of things in the game seem to have bit inspired by other media.

For example, the Mages and Templars = Mutants and Sentinels/Mutant Registration Department from X-Men

Also Flemeth already has a name given by the Dalish. Asha'bellenar or something like that.

Its entirely impossible that "wolf" in that context is something other than the physical state of being.

Yes I took it that way too, the wolf is probably just symbolic of something rather than being a physical form.

What if the Dalish had it wrong, and The Dread Wolf missed one of the Elven gods?

Fen'harel was the one who sealed the gods away, and Asha'bellenar the one who is trying to release them.

She's an old hag who talks too much - she can remain that.

The horcrux thing is sort of similar, although I'd say a phylactery combined with cloning is even closer, since they don't share memory. I don't see the X-men thing at all. The connection seems so thin it might as well be any other two groups that don't like each other.

And the Tevinter Magisters believed that the dragons were Old gods.

So you got..
1) Flemeth is/can be a dragon.
2) Old gods split between the abyss and upstairs according to Merril.
3) Tevinter mages believed that dragon were old gods...
4) Fen'harel tricked them into their prisons
5) Something can possess the old dragons and that creates a Blight.

Of course, we'll never actually know anything I'm guessing :)

If you compare the chantry lore to the Dalish, are the Old Gods the forgotten ones or the creators I wonder ?.... would make more sense for them to be the forgotten ones as there are more creators than old gods, and there is relatively nothing known about the forgotten ones.  hmmmm

I like how Flemeth said to Merrill that the 'people' (Dalish) bend their knee too quickly.

I see it as a sort of reference of what happened with Arlathan. Maybe Flemeth was there even.

Edit:

Also she basically screams 'DRAGON' at us all the time. Turned into a dragon in both games twice, it is the Dragon Age in which she is probably the most important character, and she does not even deny it. So my bet would right now be with 99% certainty she is an old and powerful dragon. Whether Old God, who knows. Who knows even what exactly an Old God is ...

- Any child born could show signs of an accelerated X-Gene the same as Magic.
- The children begin showing signs at a later age the same as magic.
- Mutants are treated with fear, suspicion, and bigotry because of their abilities the same as mages are.

- The Mutant Registration Department exists to identify, expose, and "protect" the world from the threat of mutants the same as the Chantry claims to do with mages.

- The Sentinels hunt down and capture mutants and imprison them the same way Templars do mages.

- The MRD and sentinel program are both headed by bigoted Zealots. Just like the Templars.

- The Xavier Institute is a school for mutants to come to and be trained to control their powers and not misuse them, the same as the Circle.

- The Institute is lead by an older, fair, and wise headmaster, the same as the Circle. (Xavier = Irving)

- One of Xavier's main goals is to show the world that mutants are not to be feared and are not evil, same as Irving.

To be honest it would take something away from the character for me if she were a God. I like the idea of her becoming so powerful that she became God-like.

Also she does seem to have to play by Mortal rules. Both the Blight and the potential confrontation between her and the Warden seemed like very real threats that she had to plan against.
