How do you guys afford all the tomes and still have enough gold for more than one 100g+ staff. I was pretty thorough on my first playhthrough and could not have bought all that.

Can someone please tell me how to get the Eye of the Storm staff. Torch of Falon Din would be nice too.

Torch of Falon'Din comes from Marethari in Sundermount in Act 3...it's the final part of Merrill's personal quest line.
The stats are 42 fire damage, 2 rune slots, +16% fire damage, +8 fire damage.

Eye of the Storm comes from Danarius in the Alone quest at the Hanged Man in Act 3...that one is the final part of the Fenris personal questline. The stats are 37 electricity damage, 1 rune slot, +15% electricity damage, 5% chance to stun.

Info is taken from the official strategy guide...hope this helps. :D:wizard:

Thanks raziel I havent done merrils quest so that helps but I had a save just before the Alone quest and I dont get eye of the storm from danarius, as soon as he dies the scene continues and i end up outside. I tried several diffrent dialog options but the same happens every time execpt for one where I turn fenris over and get 5 gold in return, still no staff though. Any additional info you can provide?

You would have to fight Danarius for Fenris' freedom to get the staff...and it also leads to a HUGE friendship bonus with Merrill, Varric, n Aveline.

All the tomes? I don't know. Most of them yes.

Orsino's Staff is the prettiest, so it is the best staff to use.

You can easily get 350 sovereigns through the course of the game by doing most of the quests and selling all the useless loot that you'll never use.

Basically, like Origins, at the end-game you can buy one or two of the really nice items if you scrounge throughout most of the game.  Too bad that most of the super expensive items are mostly meh (and several of the Exiled Prince items put everything in the game you can find or buy to shame--like Mage's Friend).

After just completing the game, I think I had roughly 180 sovereigns at the end, after only buying armor upgrades for the 3 companions I was using and tomes for Hawke. I did essentially every quest and sold most everything. I also used an outside source for the deep roads trip so I had that extra cash as well. I didn't invest in any runes though until the very end, so I'm hoping on the next play through that I can rune up for money / gear and have more to spend.

Could someone be a dear and post the stats for The Final Thought Staff? I can't seem to find them online anywhere yet.

Name: The Final Thought
Requirement: 42 Magic
Damage : 48 Physical
Perks: 1 Rune Slot
          +4 Magic
5% chance to regenerate 9% Mana
          + 104 Mana
          + 33% Nature Damage
          + 33% Spirit Damage
Available : Act 3 at the Black Emporium.
Cost : 126 gold 47 silver 25 bronze

Info is taken from the official strategy guide.

I don't get why +33 Nature Damage is even on there.  As far as I know the only person who can deal nature damage is Merrill and she only has a couple spells that aren't that good.  Stone Fist is physical damage, the lightning spells deal electricity damage and there are none that deal nature damage.

I could understand if the staff dealt nature damage because it would boost the power of the staff but it isn't.  And as for it being the strongest...Cold-Blooded deals 37 cold damage and has +30% cold damage.  Am I missing something because that makes 48.1 damage.  So they should be pretty much the same in terms of raw damage.  Plus the Cold-Blooded has +6 magic instead of the +4 of The Final Thought.

Aside from the increased mana I don't know why anyone would want The Final Thought.  I myself use blood magic and Cold-Blooded improves casting cost of blood magic so there is no better choice if you ask me.

Your spell damage is based partially off the raw DPS a staff does, so while Cold-Blooded may have the same DPS after the modifiers, if the +30% damage doesn't scale as well as raw DPS of a staff, you will still be doing inferior damage, overall, since most of a mage's damage should be coming from spells.

I noticed on a couple of staves, there are both the "each point of health provides one additional mana" and "+mana/stamina recovery" buffs. Given the way blood mages work, aren't those mutally exclusive?

This.
It's been confirmed by devs.
Check you spell damage under abitilities then change your staff and check again.

Bumpage.

No thoughts on this?

Does it make sense to have the blood mage "mana per blood" buff and regular mage mana buffs on the same staff?

In an idea world, no. I guess the game designers included it for the situations where you get low HP as a blood mage and using blood magic would be too dangerous.

That's what I thought when I saw it - but I may mod it to health for my mage playthrough I think.

Cold-Blooded is the staff you buy from the mage outside the city right?

Yes sir, Magus Wares on the wounded coast. I think if you are a blood mage cold-blooded would be the most beneficial staff to use. Does anyone know the requirements to wear the mage robe from the Black E? Was wondering if they had a Will requirement as well.

Due to enemy elemental immunities on nightmare you'd be best of with a physical staff so you don't have to switch between them, but then you run into armor mitigation. There's a physical staff from the BE that ignores armor. Sadly that one is rather low leveled.I carried a small army of staves with different elemental types to be effective against all types of enemies.
