Having the same issue as well, can't hear anything that is being said in cut-scenes or conversations.

Huh. It looks like the problem might be fixed for me. The only change I've made since last time I tried was downloading the full 1.01 patch (not the beta, the full release). Everyone else who's had this problem should try installing the full patch and seeing if that works. Of course, I haven't done much testing yet, so this might be a false alarm, but I thought I should at least mention it.

I had the problem before and after I installed the patch.

What happens to me is it'll cut straight to the the dialogue wheel or sometimes it will eliminate some of the beginning phrases giving me only part of the beginning conversation. E.g. in the beginning when you meet Wesley and Aveline it skips straight to the "The order dictates..." line. But it doesn't happen every time. Before the patch I played the beginning sequence like 7 times, hoping to get past the loading screen, and this happened about 3 or 4 times.
When I try to examine things in the home it'll skip the first line, and I'm assuming it won't tell me the one liners because I can't get them to play. Sometimes I can get some of them to work though.
When my companions talk to each other in party, I don't get the first line. It'll skip straight to the response. I'll get the random conversation that works sometimes.

It's very odd.

Yeah, this.  It happened to me again, so it's not quite fixed yet.  Any good news for us, BioWare? :crying:

I think this is a different issue, since we can hear the audio just fine, but the game skips lines.

The full 1.01 patch didn't help with me. It's just easy to think so, because straight after loading the save (edit: or starting the game, not sure which), the conversations usually work fine for a few minutes.

After I selected the option Force Surround Sound the problem has gone away, had to restart DA2 though for this to work.

Well that's great for you, but that's not the problem we're having.  In our case, the first few lines of dialogue are being completely skipped, and then the rest of the conversation continues as normal.  When I say skipped, I mean not just the audio, but the text and animation that accompanies the line are missing as well.  We just get a conversation wheel out of the blue.

I noticed this also, from the prologue i didn't see the cut scene of Bethany saying 'where are we going?' (or similar) and it goes straight to the dialogue wheel. I have also noticed it also with some of the other companions scenes. Weirder still though is that its only with my Mage characters... the rogue and warrior see the cut scenes from the start. I created a second mage but the same thing happens.

I have this exact same problem. It doesn't always happen, but it's very annoying when it does. I hope this will be fixed soon. :(

I don't think it's limited to class...I've had it happen with mage & rogue.  Doesn't seem like the force stereo sound helps either.  I hope they hurry up with that fix.  Image IPB

Doesn't seem to be that common problem, though. Looks like it affects only people who had problems with saving before the patch, but not all who had that problem are affected. I wish we knew what causes it.

It affects almost every conversation cut-scene and the ambient dialogue as well.

Are you sure? With me it has always been somehow related to the party members or Hawke, ie. if the dialogue would begin with their animation or line, it won't show, regardless of who the rest of the conversation is with.

Yet it happens even if they aren't currently members of the party, in their homes, for example.

Yes,  all of the conversations.  I know this because I can play it on another computer and and I can recognize the missing dialogue.

To clarify, this is every single type of dialogue or just occasionally? Is there any type that is not affected by this?

I have seen this bug several times in various forms.

Quite a few of the companions quests' cut scenes skip straight to the dialogue wheel without playing the intro cut scene. I remember it happening with Aveline, Merrill and Varric.

Specifically in Merrill's quest 'Nice Crime You Have Around Here' I have not seen the first cut scene either time I played through. The first time I was a Warrior before the patch and the second time I was a Mage after the patch.

The banter between party members seems to be effected as well; quite often it seems that the first comment is missing although it's not always obvious in the context of the banter.

This glitch also seems to appear in the mansion when I click on Sandal. Sometimes Sandal will speak his line and Bodahn will respond as expected however more often Sandel will say nothing and Bodahn will will repeat a reply to one of Sandal's comments.

If it helps I previously had the save game error; I have a single core PC and a Nvidia GT 240 graphics card.

I have that as well. I never played it long enough before we could save to tell if this issue happened before the patch.

I had this issue through my entire first playthrough. Wasn't able to find any fixes, so I just sucked up missing the first bit of most of the important scenes.

Just to reiterate, the problems I'm having are:

1. Cut scenes and conversations with NPC's skip over all dialogue until the first conversation wheel.  No way to see what was said, even if subtitles are on (also... I missed Fenris nookie.  Had to go watch it on youtube to see what I'd missed.)

2. Incidental street conversations between NPC companions start at second line (response) of dialogue.

3. Single node things (as when I examine things in my house) produce no dialogue, except on the rare occasion when one of the objects has a second node.

4.  On rare occasions, I can reload from a save just before the conversation in order to get the entire thing.  I usually have to try this 4-5 times before it works.

5.  I had the single-core save issue, downloaded the patch right away (otherwise... there wouldn't have been a playthrough to experience problems during).

Having the exact same issues and also had the Save-bug. I´ll be waiting on a fix before my second playthrough

Anyway, I'd like to see some bioware post saying:
"No worries, lads, we are looking for fine very solution! Also we want to repay all our beloved customers the days when they were not allowed to play the game as it should be!" Or something like that.

I'm starting to think, that I should wait few weeks after the premiere...

This certainly is an annoying bug, half the time the companions conversations make no sense as the first line of dialogue is missing. Also I missed the Merrill cut scene, went straight to dialogue wheel where I was meant to reply to something I never heard. I can't help feeling I am missing out on a lot of the funny convos etc. I also had the no saves/leading screen of death on the game so used the Beta 1.01 and have now downloaded the full patch. It has not helped with the dialogue issues.

Also had the no-save bug on a single-core machine, and have been having this problem. Regular patch 1.01 is in.

Can make some of the examine items in the house fire sometimes, if I click on them a lot. I'm definitely having the problem of missing first lines of companion banter, though I am not sure about the NPC ambient banter, sometimes it's hard to tell. The ones where the people on the docks talk to Isabela and she responds seem to work okay as far as I can tell.

I don't always have a first missing part of conversations, though, but I have had a couple, both with companions rather than NPCs. Then again, maybe I'm not realizing I'm missing stuff, if it just skips the first line and goes to the second, rather than to the convo wheel? This is my first playthrough...

The first time I did Merrill's apology, I missed the beginning animation and jumped straight to the wheel, but was able to see it after having to redo from a previous save due to another issue. Same with Anders after his Act 2 quest, first time it worked fine, then after the redo it didn't, so I reloaded again (lots of saving before companion quests now) and then it did. Also, both times now, the end bit of that Act 2 quest, after you beat the boss and Anders reacts, the animation is wonky for me (the screen actually flashes white boxes briefly and I don't see anything), and it does skip right to the first conversation wheel, so I never either see or hear what he says that I have to react to...
