Missing Cut Scene Dialogue

This happens to me everytime I walk into a house where dialog should take place, or by talking to a companion, I get an answer wheel with no cutscene (I assume I'm missing a cutscene, I haven't got to experience what happens unfortunately). The answer wheel seems apparently random and completely unrelated to what I'm doing so I'm obviously missing something.

I have a 6 core 1090t and a 5870.

What could it be?

edit: I got the game from steam.

The same problem happens to me. Speaking to companions especially. The initial dialogue is gone and the reply immediately comes up. Same thing happens with just companions talking to eachother as you walk around. Sometimes they start, and I have no idea what their talking about because it doesnt play the beginning of their conversation.

It makes me wonder as I am going through Act 3; how much have I missed through this whole game?

So I'm almost done with the game for the first time, and without spoiling anything, before the last big fight (I think) I have to speak with my party remembers one on one. Very difficult to do when I can't hear what they say first.

I guess we'll just have to hope that the next patch addresses this without a confirmation. Or change our hardware.

I'm having the same issue, and it seems to be related to another issue that requires me to "set CPU affinity" whenever I start playing the game. Here's my sequence of events that led me to this conclusion:
  • When I first started playing DA2 I had an issue with choppy/too-fast graphics and the only way to stop it was to set my DA2 processor affinity to only CPU0 (I have a dual-core processor)... this was an issue I also had with DA:O.
  • My first playthrough I had the issue with the missing dialog/cut scenes.
  • When I installed the patch, suddenly the choppy graphics went away so I didn't have to change my cpu affinity (I could leave both CPU0 and CPU1 checked), and suddenly I was also able to hear all the dialog I'd missed before, and was able to see the intro cut scenes prior to the conversation wheels.
  • A few days after installing the patch, even though nothing changed on my PC that I'm aware of, I started having the choppy graphics again, and again had to set affinity to CPU0.... and suddenly I'm missing dialog again.
However, I should mention that it is inconsistent. I did a quick test with a save game that started with a companion conversation that had this issue. I go to the Hanged Man and have a quest to speak with Varric, when I click on him to talk, at first I only got the conversation wheel, with no intro dialog or text. I switched my affinity to have both CPU0 and CPU1 checked - the choppy graphics came back, but I would consistently get the initial cut scene and dialog before the first conversation wheel popped up. I reloaded several times with this setting and it consistently gave me the intro cut scene. When I switched BACK to have only CPU0 checked, it still gave me the intro cut scene, but only on the first reload; when I reloaded a second time with only CPU0 checked, it would skip the intro dialog completely, and consistently, even on subsequent reloads with the same setting.

I am not a computer specialist so I have no clue what this means, but perhaps most of the people having this issue are on dual core processors and it's related to that somehow?

BTW, I always have "force stereo sound" turned on because I use headphones - I've had this enabled from the start. I'm pretty sure this setting has nothing to do with the problem.

I just wanted to add that when I followed these steps and got a working reload, when I continued playing this reload it seemed to fix the missing dialog issue. In other words, when I continued about my business in-game, the next time I heard party banter, there was no missing dialog.

Seriously BioWare, could we at least get something confirming that you're working on a solution, or something? I understand you can't do everything at once, but at least a post saying, "We acknowledge this is an issue and are working on a solution" would be great. ...Please?

I'm having the same problem, when cut-scenes start some of them skip right to the dialog wheel, none of the cut-scenes play. Then after choosing a selection it just skips right to the next dialog wheel. It seems to happen randomly. I never had the save game problem since I have a i7 cpu. I also have a Ati hd5870 graphics card,12 gigs of ram, and Windows 7 64 bit. This just seemed to start recently, like after the patch for me, although I haven't really played it all that much pre patch. It is very frustrating, and is really starting to make the game not very playable. What is the point of playing a story driven game, when you can't follow the story?

That's how I feel.  This is a game-breaker for me...I've had the game since the release date, and I've pretty much given up on playing it until some sort of patch is released.  If I could, I'd exchange this game for the x-box version, but since I've already opened and installed it, I guess I'm SOL.

It'd be really nice if someone from Bioware would indicate whether or not they're working on a fix, especially since most of us are pretty loyal fans.  Loyal fans who spend lots of money on Bioware games always appreciate customer service....and I'd like to know if I'm wasting my time checking these forums every day.

Rebooting seems to help, for some reason.

I was having a problem with ME2 recently that turned out to be related to dual core processors (specifically "dual core CPUs that don't have their clocks synced"). The solution for AMD64 processors was to install this:
AMD Dual-Core Optimizer

It solved my ME2 issue (which consisted of weird and very irritating stuttering sounds/graphics). I suspect it might also help with the DA2 too-fast graphics/missing dialog issue as well, but haven't had a chance to really see yet - I just started up the game and ran around for a bit with no issues but they're not always obvious right off the bat. It might be worth a shot for those of you still having this issue who have an AMD 64x2 processor. If you have a different processor maybe look into a similar tool?

Hope this helps.

I have this issue also, but my PC is a rather old single-core AMD with 2400 MHz and 4 GB RAM.

If this helps to track down the defect: Sometimes, I also have issues with stuttering/crashes in cut scenes (alt-tab-ing to Windows and back helps sometimes here). In the DLC areas like "Black Emporium" or the mansion in "Exiled Prince" the game also crashes when I try to load a savegame there; so I had to play the quest in the mansion four times because a crash in a cut-scene and no possiblity to load a savegame within the mansion. The game version is 1.01 btw..

Today I noticed that I'm also not able to solve the barrel puzzle in the fade because of this issue. 9 out of 10 tries to move a barrel by clicking on it do nothing (in all my tries I only succeeded once (!) in moving a barrel). This fits to all the "Explore"-Points in Hawkes mansion: I only get the text in 1 out of 10 tries to click on one.
