I've read through the wiki about 2da files (which is very confusing), and just wanted to make sure that I understand the process of modding 2da files.

Let's say I want to add a few placeables to the game.

1. Copy the 2da file - in this case it's "placeables" in Program Files/Dragon Age/ Tools/Source/2da.

Looking at placeables it has several tabs, and the one I seem to want is placeable_types. I want to place a stone well to allow the player to interact with it so I guess it falls under the "art" category. The carriage is also in the art category so I can use that one as a template.

I also make a note that the ID numbers go up to 526.

2. Delete all the lines in the placeable_types tab except the carraige one and the headings. QUESTION - do I delete the other tabs too or keep them all?

3. Replace the carraige line with my well, using the well model file as the model name instead of the carriage plc file (both files are .mmh files so I'm assuming it's ok to do this).

4. Change the ID number to something between 526 and 10000.

5. Repeat that process for any other placeables I want to add.

6. Save the file - keeping the same name as the real 2da file - "placeables".

7. "Compile" the excel file using the Excel Exporter exe.

8. Put the new 2da in the override folder.

Am I missing anything here?

Thanks!

When you use the Excel Exporter, it will create a *.gda for each spreadsheet contained in the Excel file, each resulting gda file named according to each spreadsheet name.

So yes, you can delete them all but the one you need if you wish (assuming you are working on a copy of the original XLS of course).

However you have to change the name of your spreadsheet (or else rename the resulting gda file) to something like placeable_typesXXXXXX where XXXX is an unique name. That's how M2DA works. (It's detailed in the Toolset Wiki)

If you don't rename the file, it will COMPLETLY override the original data, with thus just your modified carriage existing in the game ;)
