In my second replay, I am determined to get her to stay in the Act 2 so I am pushing her towards friendship. I heard that she likes it when you ask for coin up front and support freedoms. Talking to the man with the heavy french accent who is looking for his wife, there are three options:

Dont pay the guards, pay me!
I'm here for the job.

You would think that options 2 would garner friendship points with Isabella. Turns out, all options gain rivalry. What is wrong with you woman?! What in the world pleases you?!

Isabela is a bit of a feminist. You should see some of the conversations she has with Merrill about how evil and stupid men are, and how tough it is for women to get any respect. So for that quest she's more concerned about the wife than the coin.

Flat out reject the quest. Don't worry, he'll tell you to go to the brothel anyway and you'll be able to continue. You'll gain friendship points with her.

Sorry, forgot to mention that it might be better if you explore all inquiry options before refusing. But do refuse.

No matter what I did, she left after her quest was done, but she always comes back to me before Act 2 finished.

I had very high friendship with her, and told her to give the relic back to the Arishok for my choice, she comes bursting in the door with it when I am meeting him in the viscounts palace and stands by my side.

that was my only mistake in my first play through, also kill kelder outright, you get 15 for it.

Thanks for the info, everyone. It seems like my play style really makes it impossible to get Isabella to either F/R without doing some metagaming. I feel kind of "fake" for doing that but whatever. She pushed me to it, lol.

Isabela took the relic and ran in my 2nd playthrough. Guess my friendship with her wasn't high enough :x

I'm a sarcastic trickester by nature, so isabella tends to stick like glue. got her and varric at 100% friendship by the time she bolts with the relic.
