I would like to first start off by commending Bioware for being socially progressive in DAO and DA2, and having the balls to provide the option of pursuing a gay/bi relationship if they choose. I cannot recall off the bat in the past couple years if there have been any other gaming studios doing this?

Apparently, from what I've read the past couple days in this forum, a select few individuals seem to be so damn offended that there is even an option to romance someone of the same sex, particularly if it's M/M, but are all for F/F. No one is forcing you to pick either side. You don't even have to choose the heart option if you don't want.
Also, to those that say it is gross or not "right" or whatever to have a companion even try to attempt to flirt with your same sex Hawke need to relax and realize it is just a game. The worst is when someone posts and says that is wrong and should not be there but are fine with a someone of the opposite sex flirting with them.

There seems to be so much double standards with people here to the point where it is just silly....want something for themselves but also demand another group of human beings be excluded from those wants and desires....I'm a male and gay, and if a female comes up to me, whether it's in game or RL and and god forbid gives me a COMPLIMENT, I am going to be flattered and say not interested, not tell her to F*** off and say she is nasty and demand that no women should be allowed to approch me.
Seriously, with the comments made here sometimes over something so trivial, I feel like we should be back in **** war times where people need to wear a patch or something on their clothes, not to state their religion, but their sexual orientation.

Anyways, I am starting to drift away from what I originally wanted to say. Again, thank you Bioware for having the balls to make a game appeal to EVERYONE. Please keep this up. I know myself and a huge chuck of other gamers appreciate this in the Dragon Age series. Please do not cave into backwards demands from others in future DA games. I am saying this as a proud  Canadian, and it is the least I would expect from an awesome Canadian company:bandit:

Thank you for being willing to experiment and try new things. While not all of them worked, I feel that this was more due to the game being rushed than to design errors. I overall enjoyed the game, and hope that future games will continues along this path (although fixing things such as recycled areas and too many waves of enemies)

Agree with you completely. Though I never chose M/M options because I like to play the character like who I am, I am glad that people who are gay have the choice to play an RPG like I do.

I was about to troll you down .. and then saw you meant in terms of relationships and not gameplay. Carry on, though DA 2 is not the first game to be like this from Bioware. Origins had Zevran and Leliana, if you remember.

Indeed it did, but this is the first game where every romance is available to either gender. Yay BioWare :wizard:

This too, wanted to add I agree with some things being too rushed and reused before being accused of a "Biodrone" or fanboy or w/e people call others here

Yes thank you for giving us gigglesquee Tali ripoff, ruining Anders, some abomination of a Origins character with melons bigger than her head and the equivalent of every JRPG girly man. Outstanding work Bioware. Inb4 end of rine.

Hum, never noticed that. Still, I think I like it better the way Origins did it. People are gay, straight, or bi. To have the entire romanceable companions set be one of those things is just a little silly to me. I think it's more believable in terms of world-building if only some companions are available to both genders. An interesting twist would be an attractive male character that only likes guys. Oh how the fangirls would be trolled.

Yes, that is what I meant, and thx lol....ya I remember when I played Origins a while back, that was cool too, but I did not care for Zevran that much.
I was also meaning besides the DA serious, not sure if there have been other games with these options, ever?

This is one of the few good things about DA2, I will agree.

Well almost true. They reversed the usual sterotype and had only one hetrosexual relationship. Sebastian. Ironically its the only one without sex.

Sky and some woman, in Jade Empire, were available to both genders. Juhani, in KotOR, was a "sort-of" romance available only to women. Coincidentally, both were BioWare games

Does Sebastian give the romance achievement? If not, then I don't consider him a romance. I really hope he doesn't, because I like saying "They're all bi" [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/whistling.png[/smilie]

IIRC Liara from ME 1 & 2 worked, as did Kelly from ME 2. Not sure about Kaidan for male Sheps.

I agree. I remember when KOTOR came out, I caught on quick that Juhani was a lesbian and asked in the Bioware forums. Can't remember the writer, but they responded that she was, indeed, and that they had tried to make it respectful and not smutty. At the same time, it was very toned down because they were afraid of the reaction to having a gay romance in a video game.

I'm glad to see we're at a place where there can be gay relationships in a game and people don't lose their minds like it's the end of the world.

Ahh Jade Empire. I loved that game. At least that game wasn't suffering an identity crisis. I wish they just evolved that series in to their big flashy action game instead.

Do you know how long ago this was? I just kind of assumed that DA series was the 1st to make gay/bi relationships. Also, from what I read so far in this thread, it looks like Bioware is the only game studio doing this I guess?
Just glad there is finally and that most people don't freak out over it.

This was quite awhile ago 2003.  The only other games I can think of right now that has gay/bi relationships are the Fable games, don't know about the third one since I haven't and probably won't ever play it but it is less engaging and in depth.  Fallout New Vegas has some progressive tones to it as well.

The same sex relationship was a refreshingly surprise addition to the game indeed. Very smart feature, i back that up :)

Oh right, I remember now someone a while ago telling me about Fable, but that it was more over the top role-playing or something like that. I could be wrong, so did not think much of looking into it....plus iirc, Fable is just for Xbox?

I'm not on your team, but I think it's a very good move forward for gaming.

Not just because it acknowledges that the choice is a valid and acceptable one, but also because it advances RPGs from an interactivity standpoint. Permitting people a greater relatively arbitrary set of choices, which I believe is important to fully realizing a true RPG.

Did not think many straight people would see this as a positive thing, nice to see as well...someone just made some stupid homophobic thread about Bioware but looks like it got deleted pretty quick...I don't get why people must be so rude and immature over a generalized option for all.

lol, ya, no...def not!

Don't get me wrong though, there are a couple small things I think could have been done better but overall, I really enjoy DA2, and Origins just as much.
