I would like to first start off by commending Bioware for being socially progressive in DAO and DA2, and having the balls to provide the option of pursuing a gay/bi relationship if they choose. I cannot recall off the bat in the past couple years if there have been any other gaming studios doing this?
I agree. I remember when KOTOR came out, I caught on quick that Juhani was a lesbian and asked in the Bioware forums. Can't remember the writer, but they responded that she was, indeed, and that they had tried to make it respectful and not smutty. At the same time, it was very toned down because they were afraid of the reaction to having a gay romance in a video game.
I'm glad to see we're at a place where there can be gay relationships in a game and people don't lose their minds like it's the end of the world.
Do you know how long ago this was? I just kind of assumed that DA series was the 1st to make gay/bi relationships. Also, from what I read so far in this thread, it looks like Bioware is the only game studio doing this I guess?
Just glad there is finally and that most people don't freak out over it.
This was quite awhile ago 2003. The only other games I can think of right now that has gay/bi relationships are the Fable games, don't know about the third one since I haven't and probably won't ever play it but it is less engaging and in depth. Fallout New Vegas has some progressive tones to it as well.
Oh right, I remember now someone a while ago telling me about Fable, but that it was more over the top role-playing or something like that. I could be wrong, so did not think much of looking into it....plus iirc, Fable is just for Xbox?
Relationships are shallow in Fable games even straight ones. You bang your loved one and go off and kill things, come back and bang some more. Besides you are a mute hero and conversations are non-existent so the best gay/bi relationships out in the gaming world belong to Bioware that is why so many people were pissed that ME didn't have any.
