Ok I am confused in DAO any possible combination of choices you make that could possibly allow Logain to live would cause Allistar to give up rights to the throne and run off into a druken stuper (according to the epilogue) . So how then does he in DA2 mention Logain still living? Would Logain not be dead if DA2 was in anyway following the DAO story?
Allistar encounter (contains a small Spoiler)

If you exiled him and he becomes a wandering drunk, you can find him in the Hanged man whining about how HE should be king.

yes but how could he be King and allow Logain to live? According to all my game plays anything allowing Logain to live would sentence Allistar to being a drunk. If you use one of the backgrounds that come with the game and not import that is what happens, I am going to do a play through with an imported game soon though

If you harden Alistair you can spare Loghain - Alistair will be bitter about it and leave your party but he'll still marry Anora and be king.andyjamison1 wrote...

Yes, it's possible for Alistair to take the crown, but if you spare Loghain, he'll leave the party. You have to "harden" him in the conversation after meeting his sister.
