First a prologue: Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section. Also, I apologize if this has been mentioned before, just finished ME2 and I've been reading a lot of threads but haven't come across this one so far.
I was attempting to puzzle out the general plot for ME3 and applied the morality scale as well as the recruitment/loyalty missions structure to the galaxy. Here's what I came up with:
Obviously the Reapers are going to be here, attacking Earth (witness the trailer) but what it doesn't show is the Reapers only attacking Earth. I think it would be safe to say that the asari, salarian and turian homeworlds will be getting hit too. So you have the Citadel council races plus humanity fighting the Reapers. I have a feeling it will be more of a cooperative (Paragon) unless you kept the Collector base in ME2, then it would be Cerberus leading humanity (Renegade), commanding via Collector tech, the Council.
However it doesn't seem like they alone would be enough to stop the Reapers given how much more advanced the Protheans were and their inability to stand up to the them. Plus the multitude of times TIM mentioned other races possibly being useful allies and coorelations of character arcs. Consider:
The geth: Legion's loyalty mission (rewriting the heretics to coexist), Tali's tribunal (not to start a war with the geth), Tali and Legion's loyalty decision (the sharing of information), the Overlord missions (communicating/controlling the geth). These all seem to be different means to the same ends, a peaceful resolution with the geth.
The krogan: Wrex on Virmire living or dying (uniting the clans), Grunt's rite of passage (acceptance of a new means of fertility), Mordin keeping Maelon's data (altering the genophage). This would seem to indicate that the Krogan could again raise their numbers to become a force to reckon with.
Seeing how a lot of ME is based on percentages I would think that if you made Paragon choices for at least two out of three for each the geth and krogan would stand with the Council races. Now just considering contemporary story telling in general it would make sense to have some plot twist. Possibly the Reapers would have some super weapon to put the Council races in dire straits or that the additional allies would only help to slow down but not reverse the Reaper's invasion. So on to the next:
The rachni: Saving the Queen on Noveria, the message from her on Illium.
The quarians: (see my reasons for the geth). I think in this situation the quarians becoming involved could be contingent on whether or not they had resolved their war with the geth. (Possibly at last giving them an embassy at the Citadel).
Think of the above two as "the calvary".
Conversly, the fab four (Citadel council races) could pretty much get put on the ropes and the geth, krogan, rachni and quarians could all be the saving grace possibly replacing the Citadel races at the end game.
I've been trying to figure out how this whole theory would work if all Renegade choices had been made. I haven't quite figured out a point by point Renegade comparison though.
So that's my theory so far. Any thoughts or details I've overlooked?
ME3 plot theory? (with spoilers of course)
