I just finished DA 2 as a damager/crowd control Mage, and want to try rouge. I played through DA:O twice as a rouge mostly because

1, I like to stay away from the combet
2, Dex determine  rouge damange and defence, I level up my Rouge to Dex 60 and I can just enjoy enemy stabbing and slashing on me without any damange. (I end up leveling up Dex to over 100 at the end of awakening).

But in DA2, defences is determined by Cunning, that means as a rouge I need to invest cunning and Dex and probably a bit willpower to use talent.

I'm not sure which skill tree is best for archer damager... But I feel that the best crowd control has to be mage.

Anyone who has build a good archer can give me a bit advise?

Many Thanks!

i find class specializations for rogues to be kind of lame, they are cool if you you are a a dagger rouge. and i know that you can use stealth and stuff for negative threat generation and instant crit damage. however my archer by act 2 was only doing crit damage. heroic aura is your friend. there is enough crit chance boosting buffs and armour in the game to make this happen. dont worry about the highest armour rating just worry about crit chance, your tank will distract all the enemys anyway so you wont be getting hit a lot, if any body comes to attack you evade is awesome and even better when its upgraded to stun enemys.

Rogues are all about single target damage, good threat reduction and some good CC utility. Assassinate is extremely powerful on it's own. When upgraded + Stagger + 50% Mark of Death it's easily the hardest hitting ability in the game. Grab Shadow and you have 3 threat drops (will need them too with 800 auto attack crits).

Thanks! I think I still need to upgrade cunning to 40 so I can open chest, that probably gonna give me enough defense. Still... I feel that DA2 rouge is not as good as DA1. Mage is still my first choice, although it'd make romancing Fenris a bit tricky.

i played DA 1 3 times as Mage-rouge-rouge, this time is probably gonna me mage mage mage...LOL.

So to have a more devastating rouge as damager, it has to be dual weapon rouge?

what's the value as archer?

Don't worry to much about cunning for picking locks at 27 cunning with an accessory or armor piece that gives you a bonus to lock-picking you will automatically be able to open the hardest chests in the game. I would make sure to get any slowdown upgrades quickly as they help the whole party out and gives you a chance to take out enemies from a distance. Also for accessories for your self make sure to get one's that allow faster attack speed or added stamina as those will help when doing a lot of CC.

No An Archer in this game can be just as deadly as a DW rouge in this game.  I've done a playthrough of both and the differences is mainly playstlye.  DW on harder difficultys is alot of running around using your Crit damage abilities and running out to not take damage (it's actually more aggressive than that reads).  Archers are deadly for concentrating on one enemy at a time but using the many CC abilites to help teamates out. Honestly On nightmare I built me a DW rouge, but made sure to keep myself a strong bow at all times.  I would fight close range for normal enemies, Use the Bow for fighting bosses if your Attributes are balance enough you still do great damage from range this way.  By end game with all your armor using the rune of valience and all your jewelry giving you +1 attributes you actually become super strong character deadly from all ranges.

Disclaimer though almost all the CC abilities of an archer in the game can kill your party quickly on Nightmare something to consider.

oh COOL~~~ I didn't think of switching between DW and archery. Maybe that's something I should try out! So main attribute to focus on are Dex, Cunning to 27 and will power?

I'll go back and rebuild a Rouge for my second play through!

cunning to 27 (with bonus lock-picking accessory). Though with DW/Archer might as well level cunning up anyway just keep 2dex/1cun ration if mainly going archer. Also The assassinate skills still work with a bow but not sure if they are weaker (seemed just as powerful to me).
