If damage is the only thing you're concerned about then look to getting Assassinate (from Assassin) and Twin Fang (from Dual Wield). Mark of Death something, activate Pin Point Strikes and unload Assassinate, Twin Fang, Backstab and possibly Explosive Strike.

That out of the way, let's talk about some of the other things. All subject to changes depending on the difficulty setting you use, as you did not mention any specific difficulty you had in mind.
- Rush with upgrades is good for closing distance aswell as disposing of large amounts of critters.
- Stealth (even without upgrades) aswell as Evasion (especially with upgrade) are good for staying alive.
- Chameleon's Breath was absolute life saver with the party I ran first (DW Rogue Hawke, Fenris, Isabela, Varric).

Attribute wise... Dex to reach your equipment, rest in Cunning if playing with Assassin tree. Some Willpower for stamina if wanted (not necessary) and extra HP through Constitution (not necessary if you get some survivability tools).

Personally I went for the Dual-Wield/Dualist/Assassin route, to be a boss killer.

Took all of the talents in the Dual-Wield tree aside from Perforate, Lacerate and Maim. Took the main passive skills, Throw The Gauntlet, Parry (Always on), Riposte (Upgrade for Parry) and Engarde (Upgrade for Parry) from Dualist then took Mark of Death, Bloodlust, Pinpoint Strikes (upgraded), Devious Harm, Assassinate and it's upgraded Overkill.

I have Dex to about 40 so far, and Cunning is nearing 60. With Mark of Death, Throw The Gauntlet and Overkill, most bosses lose an enourmous chunk of health before the fight begins, then it's ripping them down with Pinpoint Strikes, Explosive strike, Twin Fangs and Backstab.

I've just made short work of a particular demon with the name of 'X' in a particular ruin that is considered one of the toughest fights in the game (keeping spoilers away). Needless to say, this build worked wonders on Hard against 'it'. (Yet to try Nightmare, but the AI on the PS3 is shocking most of the time. Even when you want them to stand still they don't >.<)

Any other creature that isn't a boss, is dead in one hit. The amount of times I've had a cut scene where someone wants me dead and looks like they have the means, only to use the above Overkill rotation and their dead instantly.

Great Fun.

I'm about half way through Act 2 as I did a lot of back tracking to get more exp from fights.

Good info A5ko, if I may ask however, what kind of party do you run?

Let's see, I just completed the game on Hard, using the primary party of Aveline, Anders, Merrill, and a DW Rogue Hawke.

My primary build was a mixture of Specialist, Assassin, and Dual Wield, and a few 1-2 point investments in other places

Specialist - 6 points, all to get the fully upgraded version of Speed.
Assassin - 7 points, all skills plus the upgrades for Assassinate.
Dual Wield - 8 points, I got everything here except the upgrades for Backstab.
Scoundrel - Just Blindside
Shadow - Just Pinpoint Precision

This is only 23 points, and I ended with 29 on my first playthrough. In retrospect, Speed could've probably stayed just a 1 point wonder til the very end, it was fully upgraded since you run out of abilities to spend points on that improve DPS around the 19 point mark.

Assassin specialty is a must if going DW. like A5ko said the assassinate skill will one shot Ogres once you have enough cunning. If you really feel like you must put points in different attributes I suggest doing it with the extra tomes and such as you won't need much else. By the end of the game with the rune of vallience on all your armor and all your accessories giving you +1 to all attributes it may feel like wasted points but you will most definitely feel powerful.

At the moment I'm using Aveline (Tank), Varric (Archer/Support) and Anders (Heals). All of the party have points invested in support skills and cross-class combo's. Having a combo up gives you even more ludicrous damage.

I reset the default moves you are given as a rogue by using Maker's Sigh from the Black Emporium. There is no point having 'escape' skills when using a Dualist I found.

A lot of the time my first orders during a fight involve ripping down enemies attacking my two squishies (Aveline occasionally fails me). The massive damage this build does, means you are literally darting from one corpse to another whilst Aveline holds the big damage.

Once you're left with the boss you will are almost certain to take aggro away from your tank, which is why you use Back Stab to dart behind the enemy as they lunge at you. Normally you can get in a full rotation before having to use Back Stab, usually by the time the boss has turned you can either run to their side to delay an attack, or they're dead.

The only problem you may find is the occasional assassin coming after you. This is abuild invested into pure damage and not survivability in many vs. many battles. All it takes is one good assassin back stab and your down. Just make sure you get in first.

So how are you guys setting up your party tactics? How are you building them? Also, how do all of these combos work? Sorry for all the question I just started & just recruited Isabella.

I'm gonna try this out with my rogue. Thanks!
