Why should I have to pay more for something that the game should have been to begin with?

This.

I paid like 75 bucks for my sig edition. I would pay that again if they came out with another DAO, but if they pull this stunt again, the only way they are getting any of my money  is if I find a copy in the bargain bin.  This is more like what an expansion for DAO should be (and they charged MORE than enough for the expansion).

Don't get me wrong, it was a weeks worth of entertainment, but not worth the price.   Especialy seeing how I paid less for DAO and have been entertained by that for over a year.

No, but I would pay $60. That seems like plenty to me.

Back in the ''2D and 20 pixels'' days it wasnt all that hard to pump out content. Then Bioware could have gotten away with the repetitive DA2 side quests as well.

Incorrect. Moving to 3D makes some thing easier, some things harder.

However, with the increased detail and a higher bar, it doe cost more..all those voice-actors and animators have to be paid.

A few questions that came to mind from skimming this thread...

What makes an RPG "true"? To me, RPG is just that. A role-playing game. I play a role and it can be in any setting, but I do prefer fantasy land so that is what I spend my money on. People can say that for an RPG, you have to be able to choose your character, class, background, path, etc. While that is always appreciated, given that I liked Planescape: Torment so much, I must conclude that all of that isn't terribly important to me. In that game, you play as one heck of an ugly person and had only three classes to choose (from what I can remember). So, really, what is a true RPG? Playing a role in a great story? Okay! And that would leave a lot of creativity with regards to other aspects.

Are "classic/tactical" RPGs and action RPGs mutually exclusive? As in, can an RPG have a great story, be tactical, but also have good action elements? Maybe I'm just too optimistic, but I don't think so.

I would pay $60 for a real RPG. Whatever DA2 is, it is not worth the money.

DA2 is nolonger even a real Dragon Age.
It's a rushed medicore piece of crap.
Sorry to be harsh, but it's nolonger an RPG. Just like how BIOWARE INSULTED SQUARE ENIX FOR MAKING FINAL FANTASY 13 AN ACTION GAME AND NOT AN RPG..
Atleast their game is more like an RPG then DA2.
Hypocrites. Try defending a rushed game by your crappy new company. :|

I'd pay 80 for a cinematic experience RPG that was solid... Mass Effect 2 is worth half that, Mass Effect 1 was a new opener so I could 60 to see what it was like, Dragon Age... I don't even know why I got Dragon Age initially but that was worth 50-60, but... I haven't seen solid RPG's worth 80 in all my life... well maybe... I'm not sure... not even for KoTOR, and I'm a Star Wars fan.

I think developers already have all the tools and means to create something awesome. It's mostly down to good (innovative) ideas and time (constrains) whether something great develops out of that. Paying extra for it doesn't change a thing.

Honestly? I paid more for DA2 than I did for DA:O and got less. If EA is the culprit here by putting absurd deadlines that hamper the full development of the product then I am not likely to care if the price is higher. Really, when you notice half the textures on your character's face is missing something is wrong.  I had to restart the game to fix it.  I'm not complaining about the changes here, I'm complaining about the shortcuts and the seemingly unfinished nature of the product.

I'd pay $200 for DA3 and wait 5 years, if it meant giving me back that feeling that I had when I played DA:O.

I would be willing to pay more for a longer game that cost more to make, sure. I remember games like Phantasy Star II were $84.99 at release...back in the early 90's or whenever it was when that stuff came out. They were like "Oh, yeah. The battery for save games in the cartridge adds to the cost!" I think Phantasy Star III (which was awesome) and Sword of Vermilion (which was not awesome) were $74.99 at release. But it was fine. I liked RPG's better. I suspect if I went back and tried to replay those cartoony, blue-haired games at my age though they'd now embarrass me.

But getting back to the point. Origins was plenty cheap for the amount of time I spent on it.   But if they did raise the price, it's not like they'd go "Okay, we can make a longer game now."  They probably be like "Sweet.  Profit margins will be even higher for the same product.  Woo!"  So not really a gain for the gamer. lol

"True RPG"... sounds sorta like Michelin stars vs. the Michelin recommendations for Bongo. Stars=age, an appropriate amount of pretentiousness, and long reservation times; the recommendations just mean fine cuisine.

I'll stick with the $60 games, thanks.

No. I paid £15 for the Witcher and I got a better game out of that than DA2 (not DA:O btw.) I paid £10 for Gothic I II and III brand new. And I paid £5 for BGI+expansion and BGII+expansion. Then I typed this and ****ed on how awesome those deals were.

Edit: And then I saw that I bought PS:T for $10 in GOG and my head exploded.

I'd say 50 hours is the average I have spent beating any RPG.  I only reach the mythical hundreds of hours in RTS games.  Speaking of Baldur's Gate there are more complex RPGs that pre-date it by a decade or more.

I did. Phantasy Star 4 on the Sega Genesis-$150 which was more than the $100 price of the console to play it on. Still one of the best jRPG's of all time.

I don't care whether a game is a "true" RPG or not, I care if it's good. And no, I wouldn't pay almost the cost of a game system for one game.

Why would I pay more for stuff the game should of had in the first place?
