I would pay $60 for a real RPG. Whatever DA2 is, it is not worth the money.

DA2 is nolonger even a real Dragon Age.
It's a rushed medicore piece of crap.
Sorry to be harsh, but it's nolonger an RPG. Just like how BIOWARE INSULTED SQUARE ENIX FOR MAKING FINAL FANTASY 13 AN ACTION GAME AND NOT AN RPG..
Atleast their game is more like an RPG then DA2.
Hypocrites. Try defending a rushed game by your crappy new company. :|

Sorry Solid Snake but nearly every agrees that it's an RPG. Levels, stats, equipment, story, 40 + gameplay, side quests...it's an RPG. You can hate it still and call it a poor RPG but it's still an RPG and a good one in my opinion.

I would pay double for a truly complex RPG about the length of Fallout 3 (120 hours)

There are 2 problems with this hybrid RPGs

They are short (i dont care if it took you 50 hours to finish) thats still short

Fallout 3 if you did everything was 120 +

They are dumbed down

I want some thing with perks, attributes, skills, spells, perks, talents, give me choices topped on top of choices

Make replay a real value

This. Plus more open ended world like F3, Oblivion, MW.... dont hedge me in man!

=-)

I think most posters on these forums should invest their money in classes on logic and debate rather than "true" RPGs.

Honestly, when it comes down to it, I think a role playing game is about choice. Having options to choose from to be able to play a role that you want. So not being able to be an elf, or a dwarf, or whatever detracts from it's role playability.

I mean, look at the world's best example of RPGs, tabletop games. D&D is a massive game full of choices and exploration that is only limited by you and your DMs imagination. And when it comes to a video game I want something as close to that as possible.

Of course you could argue that if I wanted to do that then I can go off to my friend's basement and play D&D, but sometimes you can't get a group together, or you just plain want to play a video game. This is why people love BG and BG2, if I wanted to be a flamboyant rogue that gives money away but has a weird penchant for killing merchants that he comes across then I CAN. If I want to be a mage who has a weird fetish about casting spells to become the opposite sex and do nothing but kill ogres because I hate ogres then I CAN. If I want to go on a massive killing spree and murder everyone pheasible, then if I have the strength, or will to, then I CAN.

Yes, you can do the story and follow the game, but you can also say screw it and do whatever you want.

Dragon Age 2 puts you on a linear path that gives you choices that in the end mean nothing because there are no real consequences. As far as I can tell there is no way to screw yourself over so badly that you can't finish the game, and as dumb as that sounds to some people that is important. It's important that I have that CHOICE. Sure, if I do something that ruins the game let me know that "The treads of fate have been broken, do you want to reload a previous save?" and don't screw me over entirely, but give me that choice.

Choice.

Give me it.

EDIT: In the sense of, "Would I sacrifice something for a better game?" yes, I would pay more if I were guarrenteed it would be worth the money and a better RPG altogether.

In the sense of fiscal responsibilty, I would wait until a year later and buy it for half the release price with all of the DLC included.

I can say with confidence that I would pay more than the current pre-order going rate ($45) for The Witcher 2. I trust CD Projekt enough that I would put a cool 100 down on it easy. They tend not to sacrifice RPG quality for Mass Market (aka console) appeal. Nor do they tend to sacrifice depth for first to market advantaged (aka probably one of the main reasons DA2 was rushed - to beat Witcher to market).

On the other hand, I can also say with complete confidence, that I will probably not be pre-ordering any more Bioware RPG's after this most recent disappointment. Dragon Age II was a decent game, but it was nothing like the epic scope of DAO. The depth and story were lacking. The changes in interface, the human-only restriction - I don't mind as much really. But what felt like a heavily truncated story and experience leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I will continue to buy future Bioware games - but I will most likely do so during some massive steam holiday sale at half price. I can no longer justify paying full price for half the product I purchased a year earlier.

$60 is more than enough for a game. Do the math. If they sold 3 million copies that's 180 million dollars. How much profit do you need? I don't buy this games are getting too expensive to make crap. It doesn't add up.

When Contra came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987 at $39.99... $39.99 in 1987 is the equivelant of $77.52 in 2011.

Contra was made by like 20 people, and could be beaten in one sitting in about 30 minutes..

Just sayin'.. Games today are a bargain comparatively.
