To all people who say hard and nightmare is no problem...well, maybe you like to build your team on fantastic 4 schematics but imagine that someone like me likes better to have around NPCs that I like, not the ones that are the best choice...I played on hard until lvl 10...but fights with Revenants made me reconsider and I had to change to normal. Why? No healer, no REAL tank - Alistair with shield could only withstand 2! hits from Revenant. After lvl 12 it is much better and easier, but that is due to skills/spells availability. All that is a skewed perspective - coz at some point I had a feeling that the game tells me you made a bad choice - you should've take Wynne. This is not a good thing. I am supposed to manage as good as anybody elses party configuration if I micromanage propertly. And this is not so.
I'm not complaining though. I just dont like some of the comments like "cant beat it on nightmare? you dont know how to play", "my mage cant do ninja suff, DAO sucks balls!" and all that crap. Whos to say his perspective on a game is better? Whos playstyle is a cannon? As if some of us forgot to invest some of the points in conversation
As a sidenote please check out the topic if you are interested in rpgs in general http://social.biowar...236801/1#236950
Revenants is an optional encounter... If you can't beat it this time come back later and do it again? And besides Wynn at the circle tower was very insistent that she comes along. Given the fact that you met her at ostagar camp why wouldn't you take her?

Well first of all, I don't agree that DAO Is "too hard" at all. But I also don't agree about this "easy games" myth out there.
NWN: easy (unless you expected your retarded "henchman" AI to do something besides die)
KOTOR: super-easy
Jade Empire: easy
Mass Effect: easy
NWN: my henchmen worked almost as well as they do in DAO (which is fairly well).
KotOR: Yeah, once you know how it goes, is fairly easy
Jade: (Try it on Master Mode at the end, and get back to me).
Mass Effect: Try on Insanity running someone other than a soldier/shock trooper or Vanguard/shock trooper, or Bastion specced Adept, and get back to me).
to quote the famous Nick Cage picture. My hair is a bird, your argument is invalid

I've never understood the mentality that only seems to see the world in relation to the last best thing. "Oh this isnt BG it sucks"," the combat isnt' like *whatever* it sucks", "I expected it to be more like *yetanothergame*, it sucks."
Honestly.
I approached this game with very little in the way of preconceptions. I knew it was Bioware, I knew it was an RPG and I knew it would probably involve combat, party member management and lots of dialogue options, choices and one grand old escapist Heroic storyline.
...and thats just what I got. If the battles are hard on easy or normal mode, then try a *different'* approach, try changing your thinking.
This. Exactly. That. QFT, QFE, JRANGER, signed, etc. etc.

Agreed. All you need to do is look at gaming sites in general and you have to come to the sad conclusions that gamers are a rather whiny, ungrateful and fickle bunch. I say this with no pleasure as I consider myself a long time gamer. I've joked to friends that I could never work on making games because gamers (not all obviously) are some of the rudest and unpleasant people going, if the net is any indication.
This is primarily due to the GIFT.

But at some point I noticed thats really hard to near impossible. The damage thay do/recive is way off. And with my pc DEX 45 (or close) - how do they hit me all the time (I'm talking about average dark-spewn)?
I even try to excell in spells/skills combos - all for nothing, that doesnt give me the upper hand. Lelians backstab with a bow...funny, her miss ratio is rather high with so little damage (again vs average darkspawn).
So yes I also try to optimize my team but I would like to see all interchangeable characters to be of use. And to make things clear - I jump from toon to toon during the battle and micromanage...
Biggest dissapointment is shield tank (gods! I abhore those MMO "abbreviations/stickers" - tank, healer, DPS, FPS CDS, DPDS, F**KMYASS and whatnot

the problem being if you apply it, it makes all the enemy archers just as good as you are (which is great in theory, but makes combat much harder than it was before). There's a depricated dagger-only fix as a mod here on the social site that only fixes daggers. I find Lei to do fairly well with her bow, taking as a tradeoff the fact that the archers don't murder me quite as bad as they do with the fix applied. Georg has said he's looking at ways to basically help player and NPC archers without making the enemy appriciabily better at arching (as they're fairly good at it). I do the same thing you do, my party is myself (dex-centric but still strength strong rogue with DW mastery and most of the backstabbing talents, but no real stealth) Alistair as my tank, Leilana as my archer, and either Wynne or Morrigan as mage/healer depending on the situation. Sometimes if I feel I need both mages I'll drop Leilanna out for a bit, the only real time I did that was during Wynne's plot random encounter that she has to be present at, and I needed a mage to handle it.
I also micromanage quite a bit, and am running on normal, the game is appriciably hard for me, but as I'm passing level 12-13 now, it's getting easier as I'm learning tactics, but I'm sure I'll get squished in some major fights soon. You know what upsets me most? The stupid Prima guide. it "educates you" on MMO abbriviations, and writes the guide as if it's being written for an MMO, but yet doesn't provide any alternate ways of doing anything (the guide only writes one part of the guide during the Redcliffe quest ASSUMING you're a mage for example, and the way that quest works, is MASSIVELY different if you're not). The intro sections, item explainations and stat/class explainations are great, but it's one of the most poorly written walkthrough sections of a game guide I've ever seen...kind or random rambling..but...yeah..that too.

Just try to do the game with your own mind, and not the collective mind, don't be a borg. I guess the game will become far more difficult. Else, enjoy, you are part of the "always easy" elite people.
