At nearly every turn in the game I've come across audio oddities that pull me right out of the experience. The most egregious culprits are EVERY interrogation scene between Varric and Cassandra. Being as they're in a large empty stone room, there is an echo to their voices, obviously. The problem comes in when the echo is suddenly cut off by the next line of dialogue. It happens literally 90% of the lines and is irritating beyond belief. Just to be sure, I downloaded the demo on PC and sure enough, the problem does not exist on that platform, once again PS3 gets the short end of the lazy QA stick. Having just beaten the game, its presence in the final scene nearly made me miss lines it was so distracting. This needs to be addressed asap. As if the interrogation scenes weren't enough, this one problem seeps into nearly every scene in which there is an echo, which is in almost every part of Kirkwall.
But there are times when the echos work in reverse as well. When running past NPCs and even your companion dialogue during travel, the voices have a LOUD echo to them where is seems very inappropriate. The best way I can describe it is they sound like the actual live studio recordings being read into the microphone, even when they're outdoors. Also very annoying and distracting.
And finally, the biggest cluster**** of them all, during the final Varric artwork-monologue (SPOILERS) when he regards that everyone was separated from the Champion except his love interest, he speaks the names of Isabela and Merrill at the same time, resulting in glitchy gibberish. How is this even possible?
I mean c'mon guys, the game is great despite being rushed and underfunded, but glaring QA issues like this are only fueling the flames of hatred for the final product. Two of these things are something that should have been picked up by the first play tester. What is it with Bioware's PS3 audio teams? First the ME2 patch screws the audio the hell and back and now this. I'm almost afraid what a patch might bring!
